Spoke with a local shop today that refused to help install 3-pt. seat belts in my 1965 Coupe. Said they were not willing to take on the insurance liability because the car's structure is not meant to support 3-pt. belts and will not hold up in an accident.
Anyone ever heard anything like that before?

I can see where they are coming from, but hell, even if the 3rd point tears out of the panel, atleast it slowed you down alittle on your way to meet the steeringwheel/dash...
I haven't heard this specifically, but it doesn't surprise me one bit. No shop in their right mind would want to open themselves up to liability issues. If you were hurt in an accident and the 3pt failed... or didn't work properly.... or wasn't installed/positioned just quite right... any lawyer would have a field day with it.
'67 Mustangs were not offered from the factory with 3pt seat belts, whether or not their structure will support the additional belt point is up for debate.
i'm going with 5 point belts after i get the bar in there, just because the car is going to be going to the strip a lot but also.. when i get in a wreck i can ride in the seat like an ejector seat and wave to the car as it blows up
The liabilty lawyers in this country have ruined a lot of things. The shop is covering thier butts. Because of possible lawsuits I can't lend the local H.S. my truck for parades or parking lot for car wash's.
Now that I'm done pissing off all the lawyers on the site. Installing the 3 point in my 66 consisted of two points going into the original holes and drilling one hole in the frame behind the door.It is a very simple, easy job, asumming yours came from the factory with lap belts.

My cigarette lighter carries a warning to extinguish the flame before placing the lighter in your pocket. That is probably because some moron burned himself up and wanted it to be someone else's fault. To me, a three point with two points being the original holes and the third added is a lot safer than the original lap belt. Interesting, I remember the uproar when car manufacturers started putting seat belts in cars. A lot of people hated them.
OK. I am going with three-points whether the local pros say nada because their liability sphincter factor is 10.
Suggestions on where to get good deals on them (front and rear), and clear instructions? I keep reading that you can use the existing two-point holes and install the retractor on the floor near the back seat or up the center brace on each side...

Did you ever get an answer on where to get the 3 pt seat belts and where/how to install them? I only have the 2 lap belts in the front and none in the rear seats. I really need to add at least somelap belts in the rear so I can carry my kids with me without worrying too much. But I also want to upgrade to 3 point but need some advice.
