Default 01 3.8 v6 MPG

Hello everyone.

I recently (about 4 1/2days ago) bought a v6 3.8 01 mustang from a dealer...and when i took it out of the lot, me n my dad (who drove me there) fueled up both cars..now, from then till today ive fueled up 2xs so far at 55 bucks a pop. first thing that came to my mind was "WTF!!! i just fueled up a day n a half ago!!!" lol

when i passed by a mechanic friend of mine, i asked him, h/m mpg does this car more or less get because its KILLING me...why is this car taking so much gas every time and his reply was "those cars use up alot of gas...gotta watch how you step on it..it takes about 20-22 depending" or something like that.....anyways

now by ALOT of gas im talking about, from my home to work, is exactly 25.9 miles so now multiply that by 2 (to home n back etc) and thats about 55-60 miles a day.. now i fueled up at work and by the time i got home, it was almost at 3/4 tank of gas...a little bit above it. now i must admit, i did step on it a bit, about 75mph at most but common...thats not THAT much and i only held it a WEE bit to feel the car, my 75mph didnt last more than 7 seconds..at the most (new jersey police were EVERYWHERE on the 4th of july lol)

so anyways, then today i was EXACTLY at 3/4 tank again, i decided to step on it for real this time, and the thing just hijacked my gas...i swear it was like someone flew above my ride and sucked the thing RIGHT out the tank as i was driving. from work to my house ( 25 miles) im sitting at a WEE bit above half a tank

now my dad, whose daily ride is a 95 lincoln town car, massive engine and hes STILL running with the same tank of gas from 3 days ago when we fueled up...

any ideas?

auto or manual? My manual 03 gets around 20 mpg usually, I work ten miles from my house and between work and play the tank gets down to a quarter every 5 days (I fill at a quarter so the prices don't hurt so much) and that's with punching it half the time and a CAI and exhaust upgrade, so much for that helping mileage..

the first thing you need to do is calculate your actual mileage so we can see exactly how bad it is.next time you fill up reset your tripometer to 0 and drive like normal untill the next time you fill up then divide the miles by how many gallons you used. lets say you went 150 miles and you filled up with 10 gallons of gas. that would be 15mpg.
also do what vcs said, a basic tune up could help alot

When i started experiencing bad gas mileage i did; plugs, fuel filter, oil change and air filter (K&N). I'm not sure wht the problem was or wht fixed it but i went from 22 mpg to 24.5 mpg. That helps out a lot and can end up paying for wht u put into the car.
