Last night my car got egged pretty bad while i was driving, someone else driving by really smashed into my car with it.

So, I have spiderweb shatter and whatnot, and I'm wondering what the best products you guys have tried would be. I was looking on autogeek and saw mother's, and since I've heard good things about their wax, I thought their other stuff might be good too.

Also, if anyone knows a good site for touchup paint (pref. ford stuff) please post.

Oooo.. good luck with that. My car got egged once when I parked on the street at a friends house. Just under the pony on the drivers side. I haven't been able to get rid of the 'spider web' . I tried polishing compound, a bit of rubbing compound, and every other cleaner. No good. THe only thing I have not tried is color sanding. I'm afraid the end result would be worse than the 'spider web'

My car is silver so you don't see it unless you are at a certain angle. Still sux though. As for Ford brand paint...I believe anyone that carries Dupli-color brand should carry your color. If I'm not mistaken Dupli-color is the brand the dealer carries with their name slapped on it.

Add: The only other thing I haven't tried besides wet sanding is using an orbital polisher with polishing compound. I don't know if I would try that with a black car though. Swirl marks..unless you were VERY careful.

Well, the spiderwebbing part won't be AS noticeable when I get the touch up paint. The part where the egg most impacted the car is scraped all the way to the primer/metal. I still have a spiderweb mark from the last time I got egged.

I don't want to risk sanding it either. Hopefully someone else has a good suggestion.

I was thinking meguiars or one of the more expensive brands would be pretty good.

I'll look into that and see if it helps. I guess anything at this point can't hurt.

Is the spider webbing a crack in the clear? Post up a pic of it if you can. THE best swrill remover I have ever used is made by 3M they make one that is for dark colored cars, I use that and 3M Finesse IT II finishing materal (only avalible at auto body supply stores) it is the white stuff usually comes in a large bottle which will cost you $30-$40 but lasts years.

I was looking at the 3M actually on autogeek... that caught my eye so maybe I'll try that and or the Meguiars.

I was trying to take pictures of it today but they didn't turn up well. I'll try again tomorrow and see if I can get some up.

Sorry to hear about the car being egged.

What you see are not swirls but actually chips in the clear. These are caused from the shell making impact on the paint. The egg yolk, being protein based, can also damage the paint if allowed to sit too long. The "chips" take on a half moon shape and they will not come out but rather will need the attention of a paint shop......IF you want them gone.

You may be able to reduce their appearance with some light wetsanding and then polishing. I would not use anything higher than 3000grit paper and only do so if you believe you are qualified to do so as the OEM clear coat is very thin. Swirl removes though will do little to nothing for your problem unless you have a rotary polisher a wool pad and a foam finishing pad.

Hope that helps,
Anthony

Here's a pic JD-- within yellow circle.

It sucks, but hopefully it won't be so noticeable after I get a little touch up paint on the bad part.

Hmmm it's hard to see whats going on but I bet the 3M stuff I told you about will work well, as long as they are swrills and not micro-cracks in the clear. I have a black car so I know how tough it can be to keep it clean and this is the only stuff I use on my car. Most people do not even know about this stuff from 3M, it is mainly used in body shops, I found out about it from a restoration shop.

It won't come out. It needs to be repainted OR you can wetsand it and then polish it and it will make it better but short of a repaint those marks will not buff out.

Thanks for all the opinions guys.

I think I'll try the 3M- I know it's hard to tell in the pic, but the noticeable part is really the worst of it. I'm touching that up with touchup paint/clearcoat and then hopefully it'll be less noticeable.

I'll post later about how it turns out.

When i bought my 89 mustang i had alot of little chips and what i would do is get the factory color from dulpi color in the ball point pen and apply it to the chip. You do this enought times until the chip is higher then the orginal paint. (letting each coat dry at least 3 days) Then you sand the chip with a real fine sand paper like 1500 and then 2000 and 2500. Once this is done it will look a little milky so you take you compoud and buff out the area and it will come out like new. Make sure though when you sand not to sand hard! I have a question for you though. What products do you use to buff your mustang? I have a black mustang too and iam trying to make it really come out.

I have washed it with mr. clean auto wash to stop the water spots but i didnt like the soap so i used meguires auto wash with a a hand mit. Will an orbital buffer and a nice polish and wax get ride of the swirl marks and bring out that finish? If so what wax and polish and pads do i use?

I read the replies with real interest. My black Sport Explorer was hit by 5 eggs when being driven past a school yard one night. Maybe the kiddies think its a messy but harmless stunt, but those circular paint chips are there forever (I have a "stunt" in mind for the prank-kiddies)
