Default 02 GT Auto Low-Buck Bolt-On Advice

I've got an 02 GT 2v automatic stang with 82k miles. I use this for a daily commuter car (I know, bad choice) 20 mi each way.
Only perf mods are Magnaflow mufflers and the "airbox snorkel" mod. Regular paper filter.
I'd like to see a little better throttle response and maybe free up a few hp. Recently Seafoamed the car as well.
I don't have much $ to spend, do NOT want to use N02, or any major involved high-dollar mods.
I'm thinking a good CAIare they worth it, or just a waste of $. Did a search, but got loads of differing opinions. If so, which one?
I suppose a tuner isn't worthwhile given the lack of internal mods?
Would like to keep it under $300 bucks!
TIA

k&n intakes say theyoffer 6-8 rwhp with there intakes
bbk intakes say they offer 12-17 hp (not sure if its rear wheel)

those would be my 2 of choice just because i like there parts they offer

i currently have a k&n on mine ram air really easy to clean.

You could always get a tuner to help your shift points. CAI wont show you much of a difference, if your low on cash just throw a kn filter in it. Other than a tuner, you could do gears but will need to adjust your speedometer.

screw the tuner! Check out the Shift kit that TCI makes for our trannys. Form what i hear and have read, it's awsome and well worth it.it's supposed to be easy enough that any mechanically inclinde personcan install it. Read the artical on TCI's website about their Auto project stang. This shift kit will be my next upgrade. As for the tuner, it made my trans shift fine for the first 3-4 months and now it shifts too hard or sometimes too soft and at the wrong times. Get your car professionally tuned. You'll probably be more happy.

You could also go with some gears. 3.73's and no higher! Tust me I have3.90's and they are too much for commuting on a highway needing 80mph+ to keep up with traffic. This by far was the best upgradeI have done to my car. Definitely a big improvement in pickup!Oh yea, I actaully gained 2 miles per gallon too!

1+ on the shift kit , But gears would cost way too much for his budget. 350 to 500 bucks for installation if not able to do himself.

CAI's are decent but for the gains not worth the money , Nice looks but for less then half of what they cost you can grab a regular K&N filter and pull your snorkle and theres a 3 or 4 horses for 50 bucks. Also the BBK CAI's are pretty much useless after a while , there intakes are made outta metal which soaks the heat very easily and becomes just like a Air filter , looks kool tho.

Id say go for a tuner like baino says or a shifter kit.

Well not bein rude but i couldnt disagree with stangatic more. As for the tuner, you could get yours professionally tuned which would be best but a waste when stock. A tuner will allow you to make adjustments along the way until you get to where you think you need a real tune. And for the gears, many people on here have done the job themselves and it came out just fine. I have 4.10s and do nothing but hwy driving and wouldnt trade them. Just my .02

1. A transmission cooler is a must. B&M xxx264 model is nice.
Nothing kills a tranny faster than heat.

2. Get the jMod done. Look here for everything you ever wanted to know about Ford trannys:

http://www.tccoa.com/articles/tranny/index.html#

3. Never Seafoam your car unless you are having troubles and have exhausted all other options.
Ever get an enema?
How did you like it? (hopefully you didn't [8D] )
Seafoam is an engine enema and I can assure you that your engine is not happy getting one unless it is truly and totally gunked up.

Well, if u can muster up another 100 bucks, 4:10's is what Id do. Then u will need the speedo corrected...taking u out of your price range. I say throw on an off road x/h pipe and kn filter for 300 bucks. Just to let u know, 4:10's, 3600 stall converter will let your car rip for sure, but at a cost of about 2k for parts/labor. Modding is a cost consuming affair that most mustang people love!!! Good luck.

With that kind of budget if you are not able to do gears/tuner then why not try the Steeda underdrive pulleys? They cost about $190 shipped and they will get you 8-10rwhp. As for the CAI, don't waste money on it, just get a k&n filter and be done with it.

With a $300 budget I'd say get:

Steeda underdrive pulleys = $190
K&N air filter =$50
Beer I mean install toolsormisc= $60

You'll have about a 9-12rwhp gain.

You will definitely see a good improvement in throttle response like you wantedand these mods are what you can do yourself at home. If you have the tools and everything already then you can use the remainding $60 to save up for other stuff or buy some non performance stuff as well to make your car look good like maybe a shorty antenna or whatever lol

Might I add that you are probably also gonna improve your gas mileage by maybe 1-3mpg
