OK.....2 days into breaking on the '67 coupe 289, and everything's stuck together by varnish and other crud!   The distributor is stuck in the hole and will barely turn.  I've got the front end of the motor off as well as the intake.  before I start jerking the engine around, I'd like to get the distributor out.  Any thoughts from you veterans (more current than I)?

IF IT IS SLUDGE THEN USE BERRYMANS B12 SPRAY IT ON THE BOTTOM WHILE YOU TURN IT BACK AND FORTH. WD 40 MIGHT WORK ALSO. BE PATIENT AND TAKE YOUR TIME IF YOU WANT TO SAVE THE DIST. IF ALL ELSE FAILS YOU CAN USE A PUNCH FROM THE BOTTOM TO DRIVE IT OUT BUT IT WILL DAMMAGE THE DIST SHAFT.

I'd have to agree. You could also try to pry up on it while turning. If you're not worried about damaging it, a BFH(Big Fat Hammer) helps.
