Default Weaseling out of tint tickets...

So I was bs'ing with somebody today (over a beer, of course) about window tinting and the tickets that are sure to follow, and this idea came up about getting out of fix-it tickets.

As a precursor, where I live, tint is completely illegal on the side windows, and I'm gonna go 20% so it's going to be clearly visible to the police. I'm not sure if the local PD are total tint nazi's, but I've definitely heard of a lot of people with side tint getting tickets, so I'm expecting they're going to be a regular occurance with my tint. The tint just looks so cool that I can't resist.

Anyway, it was suggested that I could buy two pieces of factory replacement glass for my driver and passenger doors, and whenever I got a ticket, just switch the tinted glass out for the clear glass, go over to the cop station, "Hey, here I took the tint off" and have the ticket ripped up. Then go back home, switch the tinted glass back in and be on my way.

It sounds like a pain in the ass (especially the first few times), but I'm thinking I would probably get pretty quick at it after a short while and it might end up being a time saver.

Might be more convenient than getting the ticket and taking a day off work (which work never likes) to go down to the courthouse to pay it or fight it or whatever. Likewise, booking an appointment X number of weeks away with the tint place to have the tint removed and another appointment to have it replaced isn't very time friendly either.

So what are your thoughts on this? Would replacing side glass be a fairly simple matter of removing the interior door panel and switching the glass out? Or is it a very complicated process?

And does anyone know what replacement side glass costs? It would probably be expensive relative to the potential tickets at first, but after a few tickets (which I fully expect to get) it might end up being a decent investment.

This is just a completely unexplored idea for me, but when I heard it I thought "Hmm, that's kind of clever," and I figured I'd run it by my Mustang people to maybe hear a few different viewpoints.

So, I open the floor to you...

i think it would piss off some local pd if they see you with tint, then without, then with, then without, then with, then........... you get the point.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they would either start targetting you for other violations or just charge you w/ failure to follow the direct order of a police officer. Not sure what it would be exactly, but I know we have something along those lines federally. It's deffinatly not a fix it ticket and it involves a jail cell.
Instead of trying to swap out the glass which seems like a pain in the ass, I would try to get a doctor to write you a script for light sensitivity or something similar, that way they can't argue w/ the tint.

This sounds like a huge pain in the ass just to avoid petty window tint tickets. Unless it only takes 30 minutes to do both windows, I wouldn't even go through the process of getting the windows tinted to only get a ticket for it. You may want to ask any locals that have window tints on their cars about the local PD giving them tickets for their tint.

I've asked a few friends with tint, and yeah, they do get tickets, but it's a simple fix it ticket. They way people deal with it is either going to court and paying the $120 fine and being done with it (until you get pulled over again, get another ticket, go to court, wash rinse repeat) or going to their tint shop, getting the tint removed, going to the police, getting the ticket ripped up, then going back to the tint shop and getting the tint reapplied.

The police don't care what you do, it's basically just a money grab, and I live in decent sized city (around 1,000,000 people) so it's not like some little town where the sheriff sits on his front porch with a shotgun and watches as the punk with the tinted Mustang drives by. I'll get him yet!

The way I see it, it's basically the same thing as paying to have the tint removed, ticket ripped up, and tint reapplied, which no one (not even the police) have any apparent problem with, since they just write these tickets for money, but in the long run this might save me some money and time (like I mentioned, booking appointments for all that, trying to take the time off work, etc.)

I'm just not really sure about all the details. I know the door panels are easy to take off, but is it a fairly simple process to switch the glass in and out? Is it just sitting there on a track? And what does side glass cost? Am I looking at a $1200 bill to buy two new pieces of factory glass, or a $500-$600 bill (in which case this would probably pay for itself in 1 or 2 years, given the price of the tint tickets.)

getting illegal tint could just give the cops a reason to pull you over.

Then they might have probable cause to search your car and who knows what they could find...
If you have a lot of mods and tinted windows you could be in for more than just a little fix on the windows, but might have to get a new exhaust, rims, etc. All depends on what else is illegal.

fix it tickets are a one time deal....you get one fix it ticket, then the next time you get ticketed for the same problem(like illegal tint) there is a fine no matter what. Same deal for front license plate absence.

trust me you will get nailed, again and again and again. play em for fools and they will teach you a few things about life !
Not like i would know anything about that .
Limiting tints on side windows is all about driver and officer safety, thats one area where officers dont tread lightly.
Besides that changing windows regularly like that would prob be a pain in the butt and then wear out the rubber prematurley on your seals etc.
