Default yea new brake parts !!!

cliffs at bottom

so my '65 is still running on 43 year old shoes, drums, springs, hoses ... everything.

priced it all out on 2 different mustang sites that i was referred to from here and the one only had front shoes and they were cheap at a higher price.

Drums were $65 for rears EACH and $85 for the fronts EACH.

I called up the parts store i worked at during college. its back home which is where the mustang is anyway(parents house - hey im only 23 and live in a condo right now ok ha)

It was a family owned place but they sold out but its still all the same people with all the same vendors.

I ended up ordering some wagner thermoquiet (ceramic) shoes for the front and rear for the same price the web wanted for the standard shoes (bout $30 for the front and $25 for th rears)

I didnt order drums as i know i can just have them turned down (also where i used to work which will only cost me a case of beer for the guy to turn them) but even at that they can get brand new good quality drums for something like $35 each for the front and $25 each for the rears.

the hoses & spring kits they were maybe only $1 less then what i can get them for on the net. Granted i still get a LITTLE discount since i worked there and still order 99% of my parts from them.

I have no problem supporting the mustang sites that have excellent reps from here BUT if the price is very close to the same or less i will support the local biz back home since they are still essentially a ma & pop shop

CLIFFS: ordering new parts for brakes from old employer back home, getting better brakes for the same price as the cheapies off the net plus can get drums MUCH cheaper then the net.

IE:

net = ~$550
old employer= ~$300

also getting2-3 bottles of redline lead substitute from them for what Jegs has it for. 12oz bottles and it only takes 1 oz to do 10 gallons.

Seriously? Must be a low mileage car!

Also, I usually use local auto parts suppliers for non-mustang specific items (i.e. brake components). Convenience of finishing up a Saturday repair is nice too.

yea, shes low mileage. Odometer reads 28,6xx. Ive put about 300 miles on her in the last 3 months. Prior to that it probably didnt even have 1000 miles put on in the last 10 years.

Been in the family since '72, originally an Arizona car so the body panels are in great shape with no rust (its never seen snow or salt) and i have all the receipts from about 72-82 while my great grandpa owned it as well as the paper work when he talked to his attorney about giving the car to my grandparents in the early 80s. At the time it had 23,xxx miles and ever since ive known the car its only been a parade car.
