Default heat and a/c problem

My heat and a/c will only come through the defrost area and floor. I was told it may be a broken vacuum hose, but I have no idea where that hose would be. Also, any other ideas as to why this is happening and ways to fix it would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's a '97
