I HAVE A 1966 COUPE I WOULD LIKE TO PUT NEW TIRES AND RIMS ON IT. I HAVE 14'' RIMS NOW BUT WOULD LIKE TO GO TO 15'' I'M REPLACING THE REAR SPRINGS BECAUSE OF SAGGING. WHAT SIZE TIRE AND RIM COULD I FIT IN THE FRONT AND BACK WOULD LIKE 60'S IN THE BACK AND MAYBE 70'S IN THE FRONT. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE HELPFULL.

Dewd,

First you have to tell us what size wheels that you are planning to use? Also you should understand and know what the off set (back spacing) of those said wheels are so that you will know what size tires will fit with the wheels on your stang. Provide those bits of information and I'm sure we all can pitch in to suggest and help...

I PLAN ON BUYING 15 X 7'S AS FOR THE BACK SPACING I'M NOT SURE WHAT I WOULD NEED. I WOULD LIKE TO PUT 60'S ALL AROUND IF POSSIBLE.

OK..so you've decided on 15 x 7's that's good...now what wheel? Ask the manufacturer if it fits your year stang and ask them what the off set is. You want to go with 60 series tires? So what specific size? 215-60-15? 225-60-15? You see this isn't as easy as you might think although there are millions of stangers that have probably done what you want. Find a wheel that you like, get the wheel specs, then find a tire that fits the wheel. Now the combination may physically fit your stang, but does it rub etc? My personal experience and guess here is that you'll want to runa 15 x 7 wheel with a either a 215 or 225 tire....it is impossible to get more specific unless you provide more information..like what suspension you have stock or lowered etc.... I'm happy to help where I can..but ya have to stop yelling Capital letters indicate your intentions to raise your voice..usually in protest...we're a peaceful group here Tach937957.2475347222

I will be putting on new springs in the back because of sagging.


Will I have a problem with rubbing?

I'd go to a 235 55 15 in back, and maybe 205 60 15 in front, with 6" wide wheels in front and 7" wide in back. that's what I got when I tried calculating the 235 width tire with a 15" wheel for the back using the tire height of our mustang for reference, and the front tires mentioned are less than 1/2" shorter than the rear


unless you want to just use the same tires in front as back, then I'd just use the 235 55's all around on 7-8" wide wheels(235 is about a 9" wide tire). the 235 60 14's on our stang fit fine, so that's why I was using that width for calculating


just don't do what the previous owner of ours did and go with the 235 60 14's all around, but with 6" wide wheels in front and 7" in rear... 6" wheels are a bit narrow for the 235, causes a bit of sidewall roll

Just remember that the common mis-conception with tire sizes is that "60's" or "70's" refers to the width, when it does not at all. the with is the first number in millimeters, the second number is the aspect ratio, and the third number is the rim size. For example if you had a tire that was 225-60-15 it is 225 millimeters wide, with a side wall hieght from the rim edge to the outside of the tire that is 60% of 225 millimeters. An easier way to look at it in theory is if you had a tire that was 200-50-15 it would be 200 millimeters wide, the side wall hieght would be 100 millimeters and the rim size 15 inches. If you want to know the width in inches, divide the number in millimeters by 25.4. Hope this helps!! Get your hands on a book called "Auto Math" it has all the info you will ever need for crap like this.

yeah, that's what I did, that and my TI 85 that does conversions of mm to inches and that's where I got my numbers
