Hello all! I am in the beginning stages of restomodding my 1964 1/2 Stang. Now before I get started I would like to warn everyone that I am 20 years old and I will be asking about things that might make some "classic" people want to hunt me down. Ok here we go.
1. I would like to know if it is possible to put the vertical door kit onto my mustang along with a door popping kit (shaving the handles) so that when I pop the doors open it also lifts them up. Is there a brand of door popping kits that anyone recommends?
2. I would like to update the interior with a newer model dash and console. Does anyone have suggestions on a year model that fits best? Pictures of this would be very helpful.
3. I have spent countless hours staring at my mustang wonderingaboutpainting it matte (flat) black with matching 19"-20" rims. Would 20's fit without lifting the body? This is just an idea that I can't get out of my head but I don't want the car to look like a "donk" at all. Never ever ever.
4. I have seen that some people have put the new style headlights on these older mustangs. Can you buy a kit for that or is it just a lot of body work?
My Mustang is going to the body shop in about two weeks so I have to tell them exactly what I want to do. Please know that this will be one of my daily drivers and I am investing a lot of money into this. Suggestions are welcome and restomod ideas are appreciated. I will post pictures of all the mods as soon as it gets out of the shop. Thanks for your time.

the biggest wheel you can fit on a 64-66 is an 18"x8". i looked forever. i decided on a 17 because of the width. it is very hard to find a nice wheel in a 18x8. 18x9's are available but they will be too wide. the problem is not the hieght, it is the width of the wheel well. you could tub it but then you havve to move the upper shock mounts in.
i have pics of a car with a custom dash. the guy did it himself and it is sweet. i will send pic later i dont have the time right now.
door hinge kits and poppers are available but i dont think it will look right on a stang. they just dont look good on older cars and i think they were a fad that went out of style about 2 years ago. but it isYOUR car you do whatYOU like.
For the door hinges http://www.verticaldoors.com/cart/vi...php?ItemID=909 a pop just opens it it can't lift it up that your looking for hydraulic or linear actuator to do the lifting. The interior nothing will fit with out a lot of cuting and making parts best bet is http://mpproductsinaz.com/index.html makes some nice door panels and http://www.mustangdepot.com/OnLineCa...el-inserts.htm theres also many different front seats you can use.On the wheels as long as you don't go over a 26 inch total with tires it will be ok but depends a lot on ride height. On the headlights you mean like this http://www.autoworksracing.com/initialseries/index.htm no you gotta make them fit.If you mean the h4 headlight conversion thats easy any auto parts store sells them and you need the relay kit too.
Well... I am 21.... and so your age doesn't justify the disgusting ideas you have for a 64.5 car....
No offense. My car is no 100 point concourse correct showcar, but it is, generally, era correct.
If you want 20" blades, lambo doors, shaved handles, and a new model dash, I have an idea.
Sell your stang, (and your balls, too)and buy a Celica. or an Accord. These are the cars that those ideas were intended for. I know its coming off harsh, and I'm not intending to offend. I'm pretty lighthearted about it, really, but I really do think this is an awful idea.
Trust me. You can make the car look 100x better by doing some custom stuff to it... but not this custom stuff. Go to flat black, with gloss black racing stripes... that would be cool. Then some new model gloss black torq thrust rims, off a 05+ with the required spacers. You can really make that car look mean... instead of ridiculous.
Again, no offense intended... But you'd have a hard time fitting in with the tuner crowd, and it'd almost be impossible to be taken seriously by any classic musclecar crowd.
Don't know what your budget is, but you better consider what these things are going to cost. If a body shop is doing all the work, you are talking very expensive. IMO a waste of money. For a proto redo the car with these mods I think you are easily above 20k with paint, labor, parts etc. Likely more.
Again, my opinion, start htinking about what the car needs first. Are the brakes upgraded, condition of the engine, frame rails, suspension etc. get all that done first. Nothin would make you look like more of a jack **s then having gull wing doors and the car won't start.

Sorry, I had to do it. What your thinking of doing will look so absurd that nobody will even want to look at the car. Now don't think that I'm against resto-mods, I love them when they're done TASTEFULLY, but what you're doing is nothing short of full on riceing.
BTW I'm 18 and even I want to hunt you down.[sm=violent053.gif]

listen you can ask anyone i know im always about do what you want with your cars. and everyone has the right to do what they want. but your ideas are half baked and are concurent with tuner trash.
its one thing to make a resotmod. and its okay to make it more modern(check out the 1970 body swap with an 06 GT)
but thats okay because it has taste. it is something people will say wow what a great job.
people will look at you and key your car for ruing a good looking car
peopel do that to cars taht have no looks to begin with.
and im 18. ive owne five mustangs and several 4 cyl imports.
WHAT YOU ARE PROPOSING IS NOT TASTEFULL BY ANYONES STANDARDS.
its going to look like $#!+

Hey thanks a lot for the quick responses guys I really appreciate all of them. The links helped a lot and were exactly what I was looking for.
Waffles- Thanks for your input dude. Its funny that you said get an accord because I actually have one! It was my first car.I really have never fit into any "crowd" of car enthusiats. I have a blown2004 Silverado SS that I use to get tickets, a basically stock 1998 Accord that I use to save gas and now this Mustang that I will use whenever I want to be noticed haha. I understand that the things I want to do to it will devalue the car and it will beseen as a chronologicaldisaster to a lot of people. But since I have a budget set around $29,000 and a scheduled shop appointment at a highly respected auto restoration facility, I think I'lllaugh attheir cursing while they are cutting room for my 20's and fiberglassing the custom box for my system. I realize the vertical doors are a outdated anda littleniggish so I guess the only thing I can do to make thembetter is put screens in the panels so that whenI'm ghost ridin with the doors up we can watch CNN. Haha Jk... I don't watch CNN. I understand where you're coming from though and I in no way want to upset anyone that restores these beautiful cars back to original. I love everything about the 1964 1/2 mustang but since I don't plan on reselling it or leaving it in the shop for another20 years I'm going to rock this mf outwrecklessly.
MonsterB- Post those pictures when you get a chance and what kind of rims did you end up getting?
Andrew- Thanks man you nailed every one of my questions I appreciate that.
OK... I am 19, so I am right there with you. I however do not thingk that the Lambos are the way. The blacked out look is cool, go for it. Im not sure whether I would go for gloss or flat though.Ikinda like the idea of matte with gloss sracing stripes. You could evenpaint the M U ST A N G across the truck in gloss, and paint some engine size or name on the fender right in front of the door in gloss.Hell, if you want to shave the door handles, go for that too. I think it makes the cars look cleaner. American Racing has some new Torque Thrus wheels out that are blacked out (I think gloss). I would get some 17x8s with some cool looking low prodirectional tires. You need to do a shelby drop on the car. 1-1.5" in the front and 1" in the back. m not sure if I'd paint the bumpers or leave them chrome, but you could do decide that after the car is painted and bumpers are loose on the car. I'd put a mesh grille in it without anycrossbars or marker/fog lights in it, and no mustang emblem,do not put any emblems on it. It could look like this cars grille, only wihout that emblem.
Personally I like your idea, except for tha lambo part. As far as the interior, leave a stock das in, but spruce it up. Put in some Autometer gauges, or some digital ones from Dakota Digital. Of course, you will want to have a black interior too. You can keep the chrome/polished aluminum for the inside. Get you a nice polished Aluminum Steering wheel from Grant, they have some nicemodern looking ones. You will want to have some racing seats installed, Procars (by scat)are good and you can geta pairof them for around $350. Youneed to have the rear seats upholstered to match the front seats as well.
As far as drive train, pull the engine and have the engine bayand firewall painted to match the outside of the car. At this time you can build up the engine as well (assuming that it is stock) I would suggest building a 347with some aluminumheads (preferably AFR 185s). Get a good intake, RPM air gap or Victor Jr. and a good Demon 650 Carb. You will want to convert over to an aluminum radiator with an electric fan (flew-a-lte makes a good one; Black Magic Xtreme. it pulls 3300 CFM and will keep it cool with no problem. You should get all of the assesories (brackets for alternator, ac compressor, power steeing if you've got it, valve covers, air cleaner, ect) in polished aluminum as well. March makes some nicee kits to convert over to a serpintine belt system and they are EXTREMELY nice. Get some long tube ceramic coated headers, they will match all of the aluminum nicely.
I know this is a lot, but I am basically telling you all of the details of how I wouldbuild a car like yours. I think the over all trick to making the outside looksweet is to keep it low and wide. It will look a heck of a lot meaner this way. But I am picturing this car in my head, and man, it looks sweet!!!
