Does anyone know if smoked tail lights are illegal in Georgia????
I definitely like the looks of the smoked tail lights on the black mustangs and am interested in purchasing a set off of American Muscle. However, if they are illegal, I don't want to waste my time and money.
Any feeback would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, I wouldn't do that in GA. I've been rear ended at least 4 times in the last couple of years by idiots who don't notice my car even with the sequentials blinking like hell. No one here pays any attention on the damn road.
Secondly, you should be able to find this information on the GDOT website or the DDS website.
I have them on over in California. They are pretty much illegal everywhere though, it's just a matter of enforcing the law. I have had them on for about 8 monthsand haven't been pulled over for them. They can be taken off really easily so if he's nice you can say you came back from a show or something and forgot about taking them off, then take them off. If that won't fly it's just a fix it ticket and you can put them back on. It also gives the authorities another opportunity to pull you over and hope that you've been doing something else wrong. I know that they look good, but everything has it's reprecussions.
I appreciate everyone's feedback. I reside near Kennesaw State College and there are a large number ofcops that patrol the area.I don't want to be hasseled by the copsand alwayshaveworryif acop has spottedmysmoked taillights.I will most likely pass on purchasing the smoke tail lights.

I drove through Georgia on the way to Florida last month. I passed several state troopers, and city troopers. No one bothered me for having mine on.
Now, stupid drivers are another thing. During the day, I can usually spot a few people who seem like they are coming up pretty fast in my rear view. We have the third brake light, but I guess people don't see it.
I say get the covers. If you have any problems, they can be easily removed... and they look great!

its not the fact that they are illegal (except prob VA cause they gave my friend a ticket for having neons (turned off) at 2 o'clock in the day!! just for having them on his car) anyways its that they have to be able to see your lights from a certain distance awaywhich varies by state so aska cop or something

(a) Every motor vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, and pole trailer manufactured prior to January 1, 1954, shall be equipped with at least one taillight mounted on the rear, which when lighted as required in this article shall emit a red light plainly visible from a distance of 500 feet to the rear.
(b) Every motor vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, and pole trailer manufactured after January 1, 1954, shall be equipped with two taillights which meet the specifications provided in this Code section.
(c) Every taillight upon every vehicle shall be located at a height of not more than 60 inches nor less than 20 inches, to be measured as set forth in subsection (b) of Code Section 40-8-21.
(d) Either a taillight or a separate light shall be so constructed and placed as to illuminate with a white light the rear registration plate and render it clearly legible from a distance of 50 feet to the rear. Any taillight or taillights, together with any separate light for illuminating the rear registration plate, shall be so wired as to be lighted whenever the headlights or auxiliary driving lights are lighted.
(e) All lenses on taillights shall be maintained in good repair and shall meet manufacturers' specifications.

(2) A light or lights or mechanical signal device capable of clearly indicating any intention to turn either to the right or to the left and which shall be visible from both the front and the rear.
(b) Every brake light shall be plainly visible and understandable from a distance of 300 feet to the rear both during normal sunlight and at nighttime, and every signal light or lights indicating intention to turn shall be visible and understandable during daytime and nighttime from a distance of 300 feet from both the front and the rear. SO if whatever you get isnt visible in the daytime from 300 feet and noticable. you could be charged with a violation.
hey you live really close to me! i live in the cartersville area.
anyways ive seen a few cars with blacked out tailights and dont see people getting pulled over for it, but let me warn you, the kennesaw college's campus police are VERY strict and are far from forgiving for little things, my sister goes to college there and has had two hefty tickets from very minor violations.
