i am looking to get a tuner for my 2006 v6. i know about the x cal 2 and 3. what is the difference between the two and are there any better ones out there? i also heard the tuners will give you more power if you have mods like exaust and intake and such. i have the basic intake and exaust bolt ons and am looking for a tuner. little help?

Default RE: which tuner is better?

The only real differencesare the amount of memory (X3 has more), this is for the newer cars because the tune have gotten larger, andI think the X3 is a 3 line display as opposed to the X2 which is a 2 line display(I think..). There other handheld tuners out there (Diablo for instance) and none are really better or worse, it's more about what the more reputable shops use or what your local mech prefers. The tuner is only as good as the programming you feed it. Most people go with the XCal only because of the abundance of good shops that have trained staff to use it and create killer tunes. Hope that helps.

Default RE: which tuner is better?

The handheld tuner is only as good as the tunes inside it. There are Canned Tunes by SCT, but better results are found through Custom Tunes by one of the tuners (and a Dyno Tune is the best choice, not necessarily required). In no particular order, the tuners that enjoy a good reputation are Brenspeed, VMP Tuning, Bamachips, Alternative Auto, and Evolution Performance. Some of these companies have package deals available on the intake and tuner, but you cannot go wrong with any one of these guys...

I got the X-cal 3 because it wasn't really too much more from bama, but from what I understand, if you're just planning on uploading the tune once or twice, the 2 is all you need. I think with the 3 you can adjust more parameters, but it's nothing I use.
