Well the wife said I could get some stuff for my 70 Fastback for dad's day. So, I'm going to order the front suspension pieces for it. Along with the upper and lower arms, spring perches, yada yada yada, I'll be ordering front springs. I'll be doing the shelby drop. I've read that the 620's might be a little stiff for what I want. It is a 351W powered car and will basically be a weekend driver. I want it to handle well, but want a decentride too. I want a firm ride but not harsh. What do you guys think? Are the 620's too stiff?? Any suggestions on other springs??

IMHO the best performance/ride quality combination is a stock set of coils or slightly stiffer than stock with a set of performance shocks such as KYB. 620 will corner well but give you a harsh ride, ben there done that, glad I went with the softer springs and better shocks. Also keep in mind if you plan on cutting the springs that will make them stiffer so if your intention is to cut the springs go with stock, or at least thats what I recommend

+1
I've talked to many people who've picked up 620# springs and regretted it. 540's seem to be more agreeable for a street driven car, and a good set of shocks, a sway bar, export brace, m/c bar, and the shelby drop willgo a long way towards keeping the car flat in the corners.

I have 620's, wish I would have bought stock and cut them down alittle....
I think there are two reasons they sell 620 springs 1st for the track and strip and second so thay can get double monet out of us. first when we buy the 620s and again when we go stock I personal know 3 guys in my neighborhood who have run the 620s and swapped them out for stock And that just a 5 block radious just thank how many more of us there are out there.
Being that some people feel handling is THEE most important thing I am surprised no one has chimed in for the 620s

Thanks everyone. I decided to order stock springs for a Mach I. After Daze pointed me to the NPD online catalog, I was able to determine that the Mach I spring rate is 428 lb/in. which is more than the 289 lb/in of the stock springs, but less than the 620's. I think this will fit well with what I want for the car. Thanks again.
don't forget the performance shocks!! It will make a big difference in the way the springs react to suspension changes
Yep. It will be a while before I order those though. Right now I just need to get the front end together for some work I've got to do. I'll be adapting a rack and pinion myself and wil also be notching the shock towers. I need the springs in there so I can see how much I can notch the towers. Once that is done, I'll be dropping the engine and trans in so that I can install my rack. I'll need tem in there to check things like header clearance and such. Then it all comes back off so I can do some smoothing of the engine compartment, paint the engine compartment, and then install everything in there for good. At that point I'll get the shocks. If I get that much done this sumer I will be very happy.
