Default Save up for parts or save up for new DD ?

So I've got some residual income, about 2 grand a month coming in and I'd like to save for one of the following

1). An MPH Longblock, some gears, suspension parts, etc. About 5-6 grand worth of parts

or.

2). A more gas efficient daily driver for about the same price.

Thing gas is going to be so outrageous this summer that it makes more sense to get a gas efficient DD ?

E.

if you spend 6grand on a DD for the purpose of saving gas, then that 6grand could have easily payed for the difference in mpg between the stang and the dd....that car wont begin to pay itself off for awhile

well even if you did pay 6k for a good condition civic, you could always drive it for say 2 years and sell it and get most of what you paid for it back.

if your going to buy a beater buy something cheap.

no point of spending a crap load and paying insurance for it as well. the cost to make up for the price of gas wouldnt be justified for a while
