Does it feel like you'll never get a build done? I've been almost done for the past month and a half now, but everytime I think I'm just about there, I remember I need/ want something else to add in there to either make it run right or better. It sucks because I wanted to have it done by the mid of this month, but now it's probably gonna be mid of next month or near the end. At this rate, I hope I have it done before it fuxking snows again!! This happen to anyone esle?
I waited 6 months for the motor alone to be machined and built for my old car. I think in total my car was in the shop getting upgraded for like 9 months. By that time I'd pretty much lost interest in the project and was ready to sell it. So yeah, I know how you feel... especially if you have ADD with cars like I do
Yeah, I have ADD in general so it kinda sucks. I think I may have OCD too, because all I can think of is getting this fuxcker done. I've already scaled back on the IM and TB just so I can at least put it together and run it. I can up grade them later, but there's still so much ****. My new Turbo mani should be here today. I guess I can look at it and be happy for about 15 minutes before I start thinking about what I can sell to get parts again.
The problem is whenyou overbuild something like the engine and then have to upgrade EVERYTHING else to catch up. I'm not just talking about obvious drivetrain stuff, but things like fuel delivery. You could spend $5,000 on a proper fuel delivery setup to see 800-1000kwhp. That was the bottleneck in my project after I "finished" it, and I just wasn't willing to go through the expense for a custom Aeromotive 1000 fuel pump setup, or dual fuel pumps, with stainless fuel lines and fittings, new fuel rails and top feed injectors with a new tune, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.
It's frustrating having a setup built for 60+psi and you can only run 30ish on race gaswith a moderately large turbobecause you dont have enough fuel Modding when you get to that level is such a slippery slope because the financial input goes up exponentially as does the chance of more stuff on the car breaking, not holding up, or requiring upgrade to compensate. I don't think a lot of people who haven't been through a serious build realize this when they look at high horsepower cars.
I'm kind of in the same boat right now. My motor is being built and can hold 800-900 hp, the fuel system can hold to the upper 600's to low 700's, but the turbo is rated to 650 crank. So I will be "settling" for ~550 rwhp and a maxed out turbo. It seems like the stars have to align in order to have the perfect build. Everytime I have done something major, I locate a worn item or a weak part that can be replaced cheaply. Those cheap parts add up. Then parts go on back order and frustration sets in, but it does no good to dwell on it. Laying awake at night wondering when and if it will be done.
