Ok I was thinking about putting on Nitto555R on back and staying with the 235/55/17 on front. Is anyone doing this? This is my daily driver, also I am putting them on the stock 17x8 rims is that ok?
Sounds like a bad idea to me for a DD. The diameter of 235/55/17 is ~27.17" The diameter of 275/40/17 is ~25.66". Also, it is not recommended to put a 275/40 on and 8" wide rim. The range is 9-11" rims. Check out the tire calculator: http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp?
14" shorty, 275/40/18 Goodyear Eagle F1 Allseasons on SVT 2007 Cobras, Wheelskin side scoops & qtr window louvers, A-H rear window louvers, big black dog in the back seat
A 255/50/17" tire is 27.03" tall making it virtually the same heigth as the front tires (27.17") but they are 3/4" wider. The 235's are 9.25" wide while the 255's are 10" wide.
I just went to the 255/50/17's on the back and there is a marked difference. The 235's I could blow off the rims at will, these, I can still burn out when I want, but I can now lauch at about 3200 rpm's, where before, anything above 2500 was a smoke show.
Also, for what its worth, I got the Khumo ASX's, sourced locally for $108 each. Damn good tire for a DD. Quiet, handles nice, and when it rains it's almost as sticky as dry.

This is the post I have been waiting for. Assume your running 235 55 17 on the front. How the handleing?
Thanks for the feedback GT Bob. I was wondering if the slightly wider tires would make a traction difference, good to hear that they do. I will probably do the same.
Have you noticesa difference in handling as Ziperhead asked?

Thanks for the feedback GT Bob, I was wondering if the wider tires would translate to noticeably better traction. Glad to hear it does, I will do the same.
Did you notice any difference in handling with the bigger rear tires? More understeer?
