I put a Turbo XS ECU and a Boost controller into my buddies WRX, and then installed a map selector so he could run 17lbs. I drove it on both the stock setting, and the racing application and it was a huge improvement. Anyway, we went from a stop (4 bangers are historically bad in the 1/4 mile, but 0-60 is nice)and he took me off the line, as most 4WDs will, I pulled on him in second and he caught back up when he started getting into the high revs, where I drop off. We went to about 80 and I had about a length and a half on him. </P>

Regular WRX's have227hp andrun low 14's, so a a stock stang could easily keep up with one. On the other hand an STI is amazing. It can hit 13.1 or 13.2 in the 1/4mile stock. With just an intake and exhaust it can keep up with a stock 2003 Cobra. Unless your Stang is really modified. Stay away from the STI's. My friend just recently bought a 2004 Srt-4. He got it for 21k fully loaded. The only thing he has on it is a Mopar BOV. From what i hear the 2004's are a little quicker then the 2003 Srt-4's. Anyways from what ive read in the srt forums, they can hit high 13's-low 14's stock. Very quick car for the price, but its still a neon.

A new cobra can hit mid to high 12's stock, and an intake and exhaust won't make that much difference.</P>

i've seen an STi run a 13.08 with just a filter and BOV. his first run, still practicing his launch. the 04 SRT-4 has an LSD, wich is one reason they are a bit quicker. and rated slightly higher at 240 bhp. and 20,995 is the MSRP, Chrissle your friend didn't get one fully loaded. they make them one way, and one way only, and that's the way your friends is. but of course, that means they put some good creature comforts in there.<IMG src=smileys/smiley17.gif border="0"></P>

well not being cocky or anything but its not really that hard to launch and awd car. i launched my friends evo and its sooooo much easier then the mustang. i took the evo to 4 grand and just pretty much dropped the clutch and it just hooked and went.

The WRX has 3 cats...I don't wanna know how many the STi has, if you put on an aftermarket exhaust on an STi, you'll see more than a 5 hp gain like you would a Honda. I believe it could hang onto a Cobra with intake/exhaust.</P>

For whoever said it, the newer SRT4s are going to have 240 hp advertised, over the 215 they advertised upon it's release...</P>

I'm sure you all saw the dyno numbers on the "215 hp" engine...whichslammed 223 hpto the front wheels. <IMG src=smileys/smiley3.gif border="0">If the SRT4 came in AWD, I'd buy it. But until then I'll stick to loving the WRX.</P>

I messed with a WRX on the Interstate in my Maxima one day. I was alone and he had two passengers. From about 70-115 it didn't impress me <img border="0" src=smileys/smiley12.gif border="0">We never ran from any slower than 70 so I didn't get to witness the all mighty AWD launch. If thats all they have then my TA would own it as well as most of your new stangs should.

People who have relatively stock Subarus and put an aftermarket BOV on are ricers, pure and simple. Either that or they don't know what they're doing.
It has been proven time and time again that the stock BOV is the best, until you start screwing with engine management. The ECU expects to see the boost redirected back into the intake, and if that doesn't happen it'll hurt performance somehow. I'm not sure on the mechanics behind it, but that's just the way it is.

So he didn't impress you because he had an extra, lets say...200 lbs in his car? bah. <IMG src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0">I'm lost.</P>

Sport compacts aren't meant for top speed, they're meant for autocrossing and in some cases like the WRX, straight line acceleration.</P><edited><editID>own3dbyyou</editID><editDate>37951.8295601852</editDate></edited>
