Yes i Know this is a mustang forum but i was wondering if you guys could help anyways. My wife wants to buy a new dodge ram 1500, well the gas milage sucks. We were looking at the 5.7 hemi. My question is does any one have one of these with a tune and a cai on it? i told her that would help the gas milage but not buy too much. So does anyone one know what it would get with a cai and a tune? thanks

my dad has a ram with a hemi and highway mileage is 17-19 and 14.5-15 in daily driving. about 12 in ALL city driving with a lot of stop/go/traffic (rarely encounter...mostly just when we go out of town...like to the beach)
I'm not going to try and piss anybody off but I have owned 2 02's an 03 and an o4 Hemi and they were all turds. The Hemi is overrated by far on power and gas mileage. It had a hard time towing 5000 pounds.Buy another truck,The resale value is also as bad as they come.

you think you wouldve learned after the first two. lol. jp
the hemi 1500 seems more of a gimmic than anything imo
the hemi used to seem bad ass, in a car. butasa truck there are some many other options that blow them out of the water, my step dad owns one, he's been a journman mechanic for 20+ years and worked for dodge and only drives dodge, but all he does and piss and moan about the truck, 20bucks gets him to and from work for about 2 days, it's towing capacity is poor, i mean they look good, but thats about it.
hell the 1500 in general seems like a pile, a buddy of mine had one with intake exhaust lowered and all that, damn thing was nothing but trouble, even catching on fire at one point. he tryed to sell itbut noone would even look his way, ended up letting it get repo'd just so he could get rid of it.

The first two were 4.7 V8's.The 02 was the best of the bunch with a 5 speed manual,The 03 was an auto so my wife could drive it sometimes.I think they were the best looking at the time. The 04 Hemi Quad Cab was purchased to pull my racecar and it was the nail in the coffin on Mopar products for me.You are right though you would think that I would have learned! The Hemi wouldn't pulla sick whore off the piss pot.

Hemi's are not gimmicks. It's just that they are not truck engines. Truck engine should have off idle torque. Hemi's don't start making good power until 4000rpm. In a car they shine. 4000lbs 300's are going low 14's at 99mph. That's the 340 hp.
Complaints from the towing power of a Hemi is due to it's lack of torque.
As for mileage. Not doubt a 340hp engine in a 5000lb or heavier truck is going to be poor.
Either get a 2 door, reg cab, shortie 2wd with a Hemi or step up to a diesel.
Well, now you dodge bashers are pissing me off! A hemi is the most efficicient combustion chamber you can come up with. Mine will smoke the tires at will, pull a trailer without effort, and get decent milage doing it. My 04 will smoke my 69..(351)and my 69 hasn't been beat yet. Why do you think they brought this design back after 40 years? It was unbeatable at Daytona and still is.
