Default problem w/ new thermostat

I replaced the stock thermostat on my new 98 3.8 with a 180 degree one. Ever since, the temp gauge stays on "c".
will the lower temp thermo make it do that? I've noticed no problems running, apart from my tranny woes.
Also, can someone direct me to a "how-to" for swapping transmissions? I'm putting my old one back in, since it worked fine apart from the leak, which I'll fix. I just need some directions I can go by.
How high do I have to get the car to swap trannys?

Default RE: problem w/ new thermostat

as far as the thermostat goes i put the 180 one in too but my temp guage stayed the same. it just sits a hair lower. you might want to check the temp sending plug. as for the transmission. if your doing it on the ground you want it just high enough to slide the trans under. thats how i did mine, i used a jack to lift the trans into place and when i had the car about 6 inches higher then the trans is tall i had issues cause the jack wasent tall enough. i would help more but i have an 01 so i dont know what is defferent from mine to yours.

how many quarts of tranny fluid do i need? i'm taking off the new tranny's oil pan, replacing the gasket, and replacing the filter.
