Powerstrokes are diesels..

Check wrecking yards? Engine rebuilders?

You're not gonna build a 380hp modular 5.4 for $3,000

the 5.4 n/a motor out of the f-150's are 260hp. the superduty 5.4 (supercharged) are 380hp. if you are looking for the NA engine, then your best bet would probably be to go to the junkyard and try and find a totalled f-150 with the 5.r in it. i just looked on the website for a local salvage yard and they have quite a few 5.4's that range from $1500-1900. so that might be in your price range, and then build it up from there.

edit: just looked at it again and you said you were looking for DOHC, and these are SOHC

I'm pretty sure the only cars Ford made with the DOHC 5.4 motor in an N/A setup are the Lincoln Navigator and the 2000 Cobra R.

1998-2003 Lincoln Navigators, 2000 Cobra R, Ford GT. You could pick a lincoln longblock up for around $3000 maybe, but thats 80 hp shy of your mark. The only thing that alters the DOHC from the SOHC is timing cover and chain guides. You can pick 5.4L triton shortblocksup all day for $500-$1000, but the timing system will nickle and dime you, on top of whatever heads/mounts/intake/headers/hood and wire extensions you need

what was changed between the Lincoln block and Cobra r block? i read that they were the same block with different (off road style) heads, cams, connecting rods and forged pisotons. that true? could you alter the Sohc to dohc without serious modification? intake heads and timing system?

Also would the 3V 4.6 fit without trouble or how about the 3.9 jagaur from the lincoln ls(its not worth it but i wondering)
So far my idea contains the 98 4.6 DOHC the 5.4 DOHC or the 3V 4.6

in a sn95, either of the 4.6's will fit fine, cause technically new edges are sn95's as well. the engine bay of 94-98 and 99-04 is very similar, if not identical. and im not too sure about the 5.4, but i think it would fit too.

what about hp gains per mod. with heads, cams, exhast and total forge would the 5.4 be a significant better to the 4.6?
