Default What do you recomend?

Hello all,

I have an 06 GT that has the stock 235/50/18's on it right now. I want to put some wider stickier tires on the stock rears and I know I like the Nitto 555R's but I can't find them in the sizes I was told to get.

What can I fit? I want the overall height to be close to the same, I just want wider.
What tire do you recomend?

Thanks

If you want to stay with stock rims, you are not going to have a lot of options. I figure your stock wheels are 8"s? If so, you are only going to get 245's on them. Your current tires are 27.28" diameter and a 245/45 is 26.65" diameter. You are looking at probably 5 MPH or so off on speedo (if memory serves from many years ago) The speedo can be re-calibrated easliy I am told, so that may be the way to go.

If you really want to go wider, get some 9"s and 10"s and will have LOTS of options to stay same diameter and go wider.

Thank you for the reply. Are you sure that 245's is all that will fit, I was told by a few people that I should be able to go with 255/45/18 and that works out to close to the same diameter as stock. I only ask as I am not a tire pro but I want some sticky tires to wedge on these wheels to get me through til x-mas as my lady said she will help buy the wheels I want. But I need rubber now as the stock rears are balding,

I am not aware of any 255's that are rated for an 8" rim. That doesn't mean no one has ever installed them on one, I am sure someone has. I am not a fan of over-sizing a tire on a wheel fora couple reasons. First, is you might have an issue with how well the tire holds up on a rim that is too small (sidewall may strain/flex incorrectly). I think this is VERY low on the likely hood scale of having a prob, but worth mentioning. Second, if you have too much tire "spilling" over the sidewall, you will change the characteristics of how it handles and will more likely get "sloppy" on hard cornering. Once again, probably not a big deal for a tire that is just 1/2" too large for rim.

For your information..... INformation..... (sorry, in the middle of the DVD series of "The Prisoner" )....A 255/45/18" tire is 26.9" compared with your existing 235/50's at 27.28" diameter. The tire would probably be just a smiggen (< spelling?) larger due to under-sized rim. Speedo would probably not even be noticably off.

Actually I believe they are 18x8.5" not 18x8"
