i picked up a good set of e7s off of a 89 supposedly today. ive heard people say no, and yes, clay test it, bla bla, and that they had e7s on a 86, etc. i want to know for sure! i dont see why e7 castings would vary at all or 86 motors would vary at all. and yes i have flat top pistons, i know for a fact cus i saw them last year, absolutely flat.and yes 86 heads are differant than all other years. anyone with a 86 motor with flatop original pistons actually using e7 heads? i plan on having these heads worked a bit. and no im not changing my pistons or having valve reliefs cut in or putting clay anyplace till im 90% surev one way or the other. thanks

YOU need to check. The E6 heads/flattop pistons in Mustangs were a "special" design (if it could be called that). E6 heads have the valves deeper up the chamber to allow for clearance, reason why "many" of the '86 setups that switch to E7 style heads, have to notch the pistons to provide for clearance. The only aftermarket "exception" would be Trickflow heads.
