On Saturday morning I drove the Stang to my Aikido class but on the way to class I stopped off by the cleaners to pick up the dry cleaning.
When at the cleaners I turned around and there was some fat slob and his kid checking out the car. I don't mind that so much....
But then fat slob proceeds to take out a cell phone with camera and took a couple pictures of my car....I am not so sure I cared for that too much.
I have gotten used to kids telling me "cool car" or other adults telling me they like the car but doesn't taking pictures without asking seem to be going a bit "too far"?
Thought for a moment about going out and asking the dude what exactly he thought he was doing but then blew it off and tried my best to take it as a compliment.

I think it depends on the person, in this situation the man was obviously not looking to steal your car but most likely to show someone else. If I see something interesting I tend to stop and take pictures of it, generally, so I can show others that I think would be interested. Would it have been different if he would have asked to take the picture?
When you own a car of awesomeness it is definitely gonna get attention, IMO it is just a picture!
Don't know that I really own a "car of awesomeness"....mine is for certain a work in progress that has a LONG way to go. But then again, I notice every little flaw and most of those flaws probably are not so much noticed by the average Joe.

Oh man. Until you have had some old hag keep you tied down at a gas pump bragging about her glory days in a mustang like yours when she was in HS you have no right to complain. I still get embarrased thinking about it. The only good thing about the encounter was she had a good looking daughter with her.

I wouldn't have been too insulted, I'd take it as a compliment. Think of how many people take pictures of cars at car shows. Now if he had touched the car, that's crossing the line.
I have also had several older folks (oddly enough both women) tell me about how they had a Stang like mine in HS or in their glory days.
In my car's defense, most of the paint is decent and the interior is starting to look really good minus the faded carpet. Putting off the carpet till I figure out what to do about my floor pans and putting off doing a refinish on my dash until I get around to replacing the under dash wire harness.
Little by little as they say

people take pictures of me in my car when I'm stopped at a traffic light. I think that's normal

I get a few people complimenting me on the car. It's almost all good. Some guy the other day at the grocery store was telling me how he has owned 20 Mustangs over the years.
I get almost all guys. Could use a few more women admirers.
Strangers taking pictures can be disconcerting but it is legal to take pictures or videotape in public.
If you want the ultimate in photos taken by strangers, enter your own address in Google maps. You will see a satelite view, including the contents of your back yard, and often a street view of your house.
Now that is not a compliment. IMO
