Default K&N cai

I was on Brads Mustang forum and they are saying the k&n kit does not need a tune and adds 15 h.p. but you have to leave your hc trap in, mine didn't come with one. How can they get 15 h.p. without a tune and trap in. Its looks just like all the other cai's.

The only reason you get HP from a CAI is due to more air flow. If you increase airflow you have to increase fuel.......so you need a tune or you will lean out your engine and it could cause problems in the future. As far as I know the only mods you really don't need a tune for are UD pullys and axlebacks, and there may be others, but IMHO you need a tune with CAI.

I've read all 4 pages ( so far ) of that thread and I am questioning some of the supposed results. MMR claims 15hp and doesn't talk about needing a tune either...and trust me, they don't do/get what they claim without a tune.

The Mac CAI on that MOTO Blue site says 16 Hp without a re-flash as well. Funny thing is it doesn't mention taking out the vapor trap. I wonder if this is how they get by without the re-flash. I bet with a re-flash and removal of the trap it ends up with about the same total Hp as the rest of them.

Any opinions on the best CAI to get ? I'm looking to get one this weekend but undecided.
Steeda, K&N, JLT, the list goes on and on... Also I do live in Vegas so at only 2500 feet and 100 plus temperatures in the summer, I'm concerned about getting the right set up.

15 horses for a quick mod seems pretty decent... I think I'll be looking into that this weekend. Soooo, Steeda or K&N? They're prices seem pretty close

I have Steeda. I can tell you for a fact that you have to have a tune.
I can also tell you for a fact that the Steeda CAI and a tune made a 26rwhp and 31fprwtq difference. I cannot speak for the K&N. But, as I stated earlier, you are going to be hard pressed to get the numbers claimed without a tune.

Don't even think about it unless you want a CEL within 5 or so miles. They GREATLY increase the air flow, and without a tune, your computer will be doing backflips trying to compensate.
