Default school me on cams please

alright guys i have a non roller 351 want to convert it to roller. i did some searching and i found that most people here say to get the retro lifters b/c of oiling problems with stock lifters (if you were todrill holes for the spyder bone and dog bones) im more confused on the cam issue. some say you need a smaller base cirlce cam and others say its just the lifters that need to be changed. can anyone give me some part numbers on roller cams that would fit in a late 80s early 90s nonroller 351 block? will a regular cam fit or do you need a reduced base cirlce cam? i couldnt find a straight answer..thanks

Do not get a retro kit, they use smal base circle cams. The small base circle cams have excess shaft flex at rpm and have been proven to break due to this flex. If you want a to run a roller cam in a non-roller block, it is recommended that you use a standard base circle cam and link bar lifters.

correct, its very simple, use a link bar lifter, crane or comps and ANY hyd roller camshaft. By using a link bar lifter you are NOT confined to a pile of crap small base circle camshaft

awesome...i thought i had to use a small base cam to fit in the non roller block. so i shouldnt have any clearance problems using a hyd roller? comp cams sells the link bar lifters for for about 355 so ill pick those up.

Its not a clearance issue, the issue is the oil hole on a stock style hyd roller is placed differently being the lifter is taller and you are using a non roller block with a shorter lifter bore. Where are you finding the comp 8931 lifters for 355, I need to buy a dozen sets at that price.
