Default Jacking up new S197 with floor jack

I'm a newbie needing to jack my car up and I want to make sure I'm putting it in the right spot. I borrowed my buddy's floor jack, since I've only previously used an emergency jack on my old beaters.

Where is the proper spot if I want to put both back wheels up? I figured the jack stands would go on either side of the axle, but the handle doesn't have much room to move when I put the jack in that far. Should I use either side frame till I can fit the stands under the axle?

I have used the rear differential to raise it many time and havent had a problem at all. Then I just put the jack stands on both sides of the differential.

I don't want to be your mother but the owners manual says not to jack the stang by the diff.

lol its cool. It has been discussed many times before, and I believe the owner's manual say not to lift it by there for liability issues. Just do a search for lift points and you will see.

Use a lift pad or a block of wood and the diff is fine.

Drive your Stang on a pair of 2x4s......rear tires of course. that will give you a little more room to jack her up. Put another 2x4 on the floor jack & place it just in front of the flange on the pumpkin. There is a flat spot just in front of that flange ( differental cover). Jack her up,put your jack stands on the axel ends. Iv'e used this method numerous times...no problems. Just be sure you clear that flange on the differental cover!! Just look at TACO BILLS HOW TO GUIDE. Lowering Spring Installation...........Step #1 Picture of jack placement

Here are the published jack points. The differential is not listed but it's OK. Just make sure you don't crush the diff cover. As sson as you jack it up, drop it down onto a pair of jack stands for safety and to not put too much pressure on the differential for too long a period of time.
