Default Making a choice, want to run it by the Mustang experts...

I'm going to be replacing my stock y-pipe exhaust system and stock manifolds after I finish my disc brake upgrade. My engine is a .30 over 289 with the stock intake and 2 barrel carb. She's a driver, not a racer, so she spends most of her time in the low RPMs. She's also lower than stock.

I've decided that shorty headers would be my best bet for the car given the parameters above. And am I mistaken or did I hear that shorties havea better sound than long tubes? I'm looking forward to the drive from the garage to the muffler shop [sm=lildevil.gif]

This is the set I'm leaning toward...

I'm tossing around ceramic vs painted. I'm not planning to ever give up the car so I'm leaning toward ceramic because they are suppose to last longer.

So, am I completely wrong or is there another brand anyone would recommend?

The headers should work fine and give you a good sound on the low end, you could even go with tri-y headers if you wanted. I would also suggest running an h pipe into your mufflers, that will give you some more low end torque and a very good sound with shortys or tri-ys. Also dont use the header gasket they supply get yourself some quality gaskets, just a rule i live by.

I agree with all of that. Shorties and 2-1/4" pipes with an H-pipewould suit you just fine.

Nothing wrong with those particular headers, but if you want a really nice pair, look at JBA's.

+1 on the ceramic coating, will look good forever and will really help lower temps under the hood. and also rg is correct about the h-pipe, itll sound better and make a couple more ponies to boot.
