Background:

A little over 2 years ago I blew up the motor in the 65 I pulled it out and had a super fast rebuild done on it that literally got put in the car and fired 3 days or so before I drove out to Des Moines for an event.

At the time the most power we could get out of the car was 330HP with the timing locked in at 25'ish degrees.

The most I had been able to get out of the car was a 12.2 @ 109 with several issues.

I thought I had a fuel delivery problem
I thought I might have trans problem
I thought there is just something holding the car back especially since it would stop accelerated at the top of 2nd almost EVERY run

So I took it over to ACA who built it for a full tuning. After three weeks or so, who knows how many pulls on the dyno, and a full trans rebuild here are the results:

The carb ended up being heavily jetted up in the front and the rear. The timing was adjusted to have a 22 (I think) initial and 28 total. The trans front pump started leaking heavily so I had a trans shop look at it and they said all the clutches needed to be replaced...etc...

Flash forward to today.
I took it to the track.
First run off the trailer, stone cold, I didn't do a burn out with the tires and left the line at idle shifting 1-2 and 2-3 at 7300ish RPM:
60: 1.842
330: 5.080
1/8: 7.776
MPH: 90.82
1000: 10.115
1/4: 12.107
MPH 113.05 <= a new high

So I started getting excited thinking everything was looking...and most importantly...there was no bog in the car at the top of second. Run right around and get it line. The car is now up to full operating temp.

Pull up and do a full burnout in drive so it won't stay in 1st but will get up to 3rd gear. Pull up to the line, foot brake it 2k RPM and go when the light turns green and make the 1-2 shift at 7300rpm
60: 1.724 <- a new low
330: 4.955
1/8: 7.683
MPH: 87.28
1000: 10.520
1/4: 13.530
MPH 69.33 <- a new low

Everything went right and then everything went wrong. First it launched great and the hole shot was on the money for a great run but then I made the 1-2 shift and when it hit 6500 in 2nd...it bogged down and would not accelerate anymore so I lifted off the gas and cruised to the turn off lane. At the same time the valve cover gasket pushed out and sprayed oil over the top of the motor. Pull it back uber mad.

Then I start to think a little about the issues. The trans seemed to work ok when it was cold at the rpm but once it got warmed up didn't want to run. So I parked the car for 30 minutes to cool off, wiped down the motor, popped the cap back onto the pcv valve which had blown off, wiped off all the oil, shoved the gasket back under the valve cover gave the bolts a little twist and went for one last run.

Get up to the line, do a quick burnout in 1st only because my thinking is now I might be having a heat issue in the trans. Pull up to the line and make a decision that had interesting results

60: 1.753
330: 4.923
1/8: 7.596
MPH: 91.00
1000: 9.944
1/4: 11.946 WOOT WOOT WOOT
MPH 112.60

So what did I do different? I shifted it at 6500! I had to go slower to go faster I am now convinced I need to change the valve body in the trans and add that external cooler. I had added a super deep finned aluminum pan and I believe it helped out some and is why the first run worked out.

Dyno Chart They put it on a MPH scale...so I still have to stop back and get one on an RPM scale but you get the idea.

TimeSlip!!!! Just because

Cool...but why are you locking the timing in like that?  That's a LOT of initial advance, and not as much total advance as I'd expect.
