Ok from my posts you can tell I have been going back and forth on exhaust set ups.

Well, I thought I had my mind made up to go with the Magnaflow Catback (Magnapack) system.
But last night after thinking I came to an important question.

I know that the catbacks replace your stock pipe. With that in mind I was wondering...
What if at some point in time I decided to go with another exhaust later on and switch companies?
Does that mean that since the stock back pipes are not on my car anymore that I would have to buy cat back from now on from
other companies and not be able to get axle back from them since the stock pipes were no longer there and let's say... the Magnaflow pipes would not fit
other axle back systems, or perhaps because the pipes were different that it would cause it to sound different than it was intended to with the stock back pipes of my car?

If it was'nt for a particular reason I would have just gone with the Pypes mid muffler system.
The reason is this...the dealer cant order from pypes and do to specific situations I cannot order from anyone but either a dealer or a muffler shop and they don't deal with them.
(aka..I do not want to charge it on my credit card so I need to pay cash). So that is out the window.

So now my major concern is if I would have to buy catback from now on if I got the Magnaflow catback system.
(other catbacks are so expensive I would'nt want to have to do that from now on)

Anyone know if this would be the case?

well this is what i know brother. some companies make their catbacks fittablefor other exhaust parts of different copmanies. for example, Bassani makes their headers to fit only basasni catback systems, while Mac makes their exhaust to fit with with other aftermarket exhausts, like SLp Exhaust. I'm going with Mac longtube headers and off road prochamber with SLP Loudmouths. See two different companies that u can combine together with your exhaust parts. my best advise is to go to youtube and listen to all the exhaust clips they have so you can get an idea on how they sound. just type what ever exhaust brand you're interested in and the year range of your mustang. hope i could help.

Why even buy a catback? The only reason to buy a catback is if you wanted the mid mufflers because, well, it places the mufflers near the middle. Any other cat back is going to sound and perform like an axleback, so save some money and the PITA install.

You have used up your allotted number of exhaust posts.;)

I agree with Moose, save your money and the PITA install. Axle backs work just fine.ORIGINAL: moosestang

I love my FRPP stinger! They sound great and flow just fine for my 600+HP!

And since its an axle back, I can use most any header or h-pipe or x-pipe with it that I want. Plus install was cake!

You should be able to buy the catback and still change axle back later on down the road, unless you are going with the 3.0" exhaust. IMO, unless you are going with the 3.0" you are better off just buying an axleback set up now vs. later.

Don't waste your breathe Moose. He's been told this over and over again, he just refuses to listen.[sm=chairshot.gif]

Ok, if you are normally aspirated, and I assume you are. You will probably see little or no gain from a fancy exhaust system. The fact is, The factory exhaust is very, very efficient up to about 450 HP.. So, if you are looking for performance. Look elsewhere. Dollar for dollar there are many other upgrades that will produce more power for alot less money than changing your entire exhaust system. If your looking for better sound, then just change the mufflers, there is no need to re-invent the wheel here. 3" exhaust systems are pricey, that is a fact. Theywill not give a great HP return for your money.

unless of course the piping in the cat-back set-up is stainless... then you got yourself something worthwile

Here's what I went with.
The Magnaflow Catback system (Magnapack aggressive sound)
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?zone=AMML&id=846

I got it for cheaper than a set of axle back stingers and they are stainless steel from what I see..
agree?

Think I got a good deal?

The Magnaflow say they are 2.5' with a 4" tip size.
is that ok?

You will be fine as long as you like the sound you get..... Other than that you really don't have to worry so much about the size and type of exhaust unless you are going over 600HP I am over 600HP and I still have the stock manifolds, stock cats and FRPP stinger axle backs

Nice! so counting this one that is like 8 threads where you get mostly the same types of answers!

Maybe you should just stick with the stock exhaust. Less headache for all! LOL
