Default Confusion

I'm confused when it comes to the special mustangs, like Saleen, SVT, Shelby, Cobra, Boss, etc... Maybe someone could explain it to me? I'm not really sure how to put this in a question. Are these Mustangs designed and produced by Ford? I guess I'm confused because of the names behind them like Carroll Shelby and Larry Shinoda, and how they seem to have their own companies? And what about the Ford Shelby GR-1 concept? Why does that have the name Shelby but is not a Mustang?

Default RE: Confusion

Most of them are standard ford productions that have been sent to these individual companies and modified to company discretion. Saleen for instance-- they have a partnership with ford, they take new fords and convert them to 1 of 3 levels of Saleenism. I believe Shelby is the same way. SVT (Special Vehicles Team) is Ford, but a different branch of ford. They design such cars as the lightning, cobra, and the new shelby cobra ( i think they have their hands in that too).

THe boss mustang if im not mistaken is like a bullit or a mach 1. direct from ford with some minor upgrades done either peformance wise or strictly looks...or both.
there are also groups such as steeda or roush--these companies will take your stock stang and after a month or so and a few thousand dollars, they convert it to their special "roush" or "steeda" mustang.

hope this helped!
