2.79's may have something to do with it.

P.S. delete this before a Chevy guy finds this and turns it into an owned pic v.v

I have a 65 with a 600 cfm carb and a performer manifold and I have a hard time not spinning the tires. Kinda weird

I've got a C4 and 2.79's and I've managed it a few times. I think traction plays a large part if you're having so much trouble now, try some balder tires.

Chevy guy here, owned, lol . nah, honestly i think the only good things ford has ever had going for them are mustangs and their trucks.  I still prefer Chevy trucks but I do like the fords.  I took all visible ford emblems off my stang first thing.  But lets not make this a which is better thread.  For what its worth though, my best friend has a 74 vette and he has trouble gettin it to burn but it'll chirp between gears.

Are you actually in first?  The shift pattern on automatic cars isn't always that obvious.  I don't have one, but I recall something about a circle and a dot, one of which locks out first gear for better traction in wet weather.

you guys running an stock open rear end or a limited-slip?  I could light em up with an open, but I have a heck of a time with my limited slip on dry pavement.

Timing should be 8-10* BTDC for optimum performance/efficiency.  It probably wouldn't run for crap if it was set right at TDC.

well if its running now and it goes faster than 20 mph its probabaly not at TDC but no harm in checking.

well, what kind of condition is the engine in? original? rebuilt? a fresh engine is much easier to do it in then an old an tired one....plus there is a little bit of skill in getting the tires to break initially. try a quick punch then to the floor to load every thing up.

Just drop a 351 in it, then you will smoke em, I had an auto truck for awhile and all I had to do was hold down the brake and the gas. You definitely should try flying fool's technique you have just need a slight break away to get them spinning.

Besides traction is a good thing not a bad thing! I would kill for traction sometimes.
