I need advice, please anyone and everyone give me your opinion!!!!
Hello everyone, ive been ranting ever once in a while the past few months about wanting 4.10 gears and getting them this summer. WELL I have the money for install, posi, gears, and speedo gears.
Now i was told just the other day that with STOCK V6 HP the 4.10 gears will be barley noticable.... This killed my expectation of being able to feel a major difference and the ability to have a nice lauch... My questions are... 1) Is there a MAJOR or a MINOR difference....( am i really going to feel the difference ) 2) Is it WORTH the 750$ OK, now heres my question....should i just sell my car and buy a GT? I believe thats where im heading because i drove in a corvette last year and the throwing me back into my seat was amazing.... If i do go for a GT im lookin into the 95-04 years which years where the most powerfull.....which years should i stay away from.....are the 95 5.0's doggy? i dont know i feel like i want a lot of power and im just not going to get it with a v6 ( me being 19 and not making A LOT of money to build one anyways ) OR OR OR heres my last option buy the powerpack from supersix motorsports that has cam p/p upper and lower intakes and new heads....adding 75 HP where even then i dont think that will meet my expectations please please please please give me your opinion on WHAT YOU WOULD DO and possible what I SHOULD DO Thank you :-) |

You will definitely feel 4.10s, especially because you have a '96. However, your car will probably still run 16 seconds in the quarter, which is slow as nuts. 99-04 GTs have much more hp than the earlier years.

if you need hp sell the v6 and get a gt. you'll go broke if your 19 yrs old without a big budget trying to make the v6 fast

Im a pharm tech so its not like im broke...its just i dont really have enough to build the V6 up I planned on getting the power pack and 4.10 gears....the power pack adds 85 HP will that even get up there with the GT or am i Just better off saving selling and gettin a new car? |

You'll find that there will be varying opinions about whether to go with the GT or not. Many will say go with the GT, others will say build up the 6. It's up to you, really. What do you want? Look at GT's and what they are going for, what you might be able to get for your car, and compare that to what the cost of the mods you want to do.

Personally in your case I believe the GT would be the much cheaper route. Sn-95 V6s are awesome on gas, as long as the engine, drivetrain, or other isn't shot, however, they're slow as balls, and take a lot of money to make fast. Hell assuming you can do the work yourself you have to spend at least $700-1000 in parts for a split port intake swap just to make it up to 99-04 speed which is still far shy from the accelleration offered by a GT, even the Sn-95s (yet again assuming a everything is functioning properly). I had enough money at the time I purchased my 5.0 to make my sixer decently fast ($5000 if memory serves me right), but instead of having a mid 200 rwhp sixer I have a 300 rwhp 5.0 that has enough parts to push it up near the 500 rwhp limit, something I never would of dreamed of having with the sixer. |

its ultimately your call, brother. to tell the truth, modding cars is an expensive, rich man's hobby, imho. at least to mod a car 'right'. 90 percent of people who are into 'modding' cars stop at intake, exhaust, and wheels, and never really delve into the engine. this is fine..if you are ok with having a 15-16 second car. nothing wrong with that. however, if you want real power (to me, a really powerful car that is still streetable is around 300-400hp...any less isnt fast, any more, and you are probably just gonna wreck), it is very expensive. its expensive to mod heavily a car that is slow from the factory, a 'faster' car costs more...the only option for cheap hp is to buy an old pos you can mod, like a dodge omni...but then itll look bad. :P
i would look at what your goals are, and go from there. if you are wanting a much faster car, id start by getting a second job. b/c even if you get the gt, itll put a smile on your face...for about a month. then youll want more hp, and youll be back at the drawing board. :) good luck. |

If it is an option, save for a 99-04 GT, you will 100% be satisfied in that decision. Stop putting money into the six.

get the gt if you can afford higher insurance and filling up more.
for sure. youll end up modding that too, and if you already have a faster car than the 6 youll just be even better with the same mods |
