my car is stock but lately i noticed that it sort of "whines" wen accererating and when decceleratng too. and it makes thsi sort of grinding noise on idle or wen stopped at a stop light....
im thinking t has something to do with the power steering but idk.. what should i check for??
its a 2002 automatic 3.8 stock

Never had a ps whine ever...
Could be your alternator going out?

+1, The only noise my ps makes is when you turn the wheel - which is normal, and it is no louder than that of a regular car.
With my car, the alternator makes a LITTLE noise. You can hear the injectors if you stick your head do there real close. If I put my ear directly over the intake manifold, I can hear the pushrods/lifters working. All of my noize is normal tho, besides the pin hole leak on my h-pipe - and you can only hear that in a parking garage.

The sound he is talking about is his transmission.
Mine does it too, but I have never known whether it is normal or not, It sounds like a slight gear whine when you accelerate under 3k rpms for me, and when letting off the gas, or decelleration. I dont think its anything wrong, but its gotten considerably louder for me when i had a new clutch installed.

Check your belt. My gatorback belt sounds like it has a blower lol.

i blew one of my speakers in my car and now when i accelerate
it sounds like i have a turbo...but i dont :(

lol at this thread. it is eternally...ETERNALLY difficult to diagnose a car problem when u arent in fron of it, esp. if the op has nooo clue what it is about. our only clues? sound effects, usually bad ones.
ah well, lemme think: grinding noise upon accelation and decel, when turning, and sometimes when idling...have you checked under your car? your driveshaft?
