Default a different gear question

this isnt a "which gear should i get" question

i have a 94 gt auto, and i always hear 3.73 for standard, 4.10 for auto

now my question is why should i get a larger gear just because i have an auto?

i think it's because the aod lags so much
and you don't have to shift it..it makes up for the power loss
i suppose..good question
i have 4.10's in my aod and love them

this is just a guess, but i assumed it was because the AOD has 3 gears (plus OD), and the t5 has 4 gears (plus OD). so the 3 gears of the AOD aren't as good for acceleration since it spreads the 4 gears accross 3. does that make sense?

It's because the AOD's 1st gear ratio just plain sucks. You should have the AOD-E/4R70W which has a better 1st gear ratio, so a 3.73 may be a better option, especially if it's a daily driver.
