working on a 1969 camaro 350 4bbl mechanical carb, mechanical dizzy, with vac advance and 1 black wire coming from it.

the coil is a cylinder with one screw+    the other negative -

the distributor has one black wire(old points type mechanical) .

I got number one set TDC, how do I wire this simple setup, we are starting from scratch and the coil is new(2 of them incase one is bad-autozone brand).

I connected both screws directly to battery with thin wire to see if I got spark, none came.

So someone tell me what im doing wrong here lol

Key on power will go to the POS side of the coil. Must be hot while running and during cranking.
The one black wire coming from the distributor goes to the points. This gives you ground 8 times per revolution. That goes to NEG on the coil.

Ha Ha this kid a couple days ago totalled his dad's 69 corvette. He tried to fish tail it and lost control and hit a metro bus sign and totalled it pretty much. It's fixable but it's going to cost a lot of money!!

What does this have to do with this thread?

In order for a coil to fire. It needs power at the positive and ground is broken.
So connect the pos to key on power. It's often a resistor wire or run through a ballast resistor.
Must be hot during cranking and run.

The other wire goes to the points. It will be open and closed 8 times per revolution. Often paralleled with a condenser.

For what it's worth. Throw that system out and get either an GM HEI, Pertronix or MSD set up.
