I'm currently stationed in Iraq and have time to think and collect cash to make some changes or replace my car. Since home is in Indiana I could drive up to Brenspeed for a BMR traction kit, Saleen 475 or 500 hp supercharger, gears, and maybe aluminum driveshaft.

~OR~

I could put GT500 body panels on it ScreaminYellow-style with gears/traction kit.

~OR~

Put the money for mods down on a GT500 trade.

~OR~

Drive it as is and put the mod money toward paying off the car.

The results of this poll should be interesting.

If I do option 1 I'd like it to be faster than a stock GT500 - not to go whip up on GT500s but to make sure I've got the power for the Challengers and Camaros when they show up.The car now has about 17500 miles on it.

+1  then take the money saved and mod it beyond the performance of the stocker 500's.

Depends on a lot of other things. Is this your dd or is this going to be garaged. Do you live in a home or rent. single or married. etc..etc..    Look Life is short and your the one over there putting your a$$ on the line.(for US) and I want to thank you for your service.
So what would make you happy!! I am glad you can think about this kinda stuff and hope you end up with the car you really want. The GT 500 have come down a lot. dealers are not inviting extra salespeople to take a turn at you when you try to by one of these. no more 15k over sticker ....I think conditions to buy one are going to get better in the next several months to years. With the challengers and camero's the big ticket cars are going to do a battle for customers.

I know its a poll   just typ-n out loud

Around here, GT500's are already going for sticker right now. I'd trade it in a heartbeat...

The car will be carported maybe garaged if I buy a house when I get back. I have an apartment and I'm single. After being back after a year the car will probably seem new again.

You could have mentioned that BEFORE I voted...

Well, I had originalyl voted to pay it down since I was assuming that you were still paying finance charges. Now that I know you have 0%, uh supercharger FTW!!!

Well, financially, you should be investing the money, either in the TSP or a 401k depending on your job (government civilian, military or contractor).

I guess you've heard it before, cars are a depreciating asset.  Spend a little on mods (what about gears or suspension?  New wheels?) and then invest the rest.  Houses are getting cheaper and stocks are a deal.

Definitely don't blow it all on a GT-500.  There is always something cooler in the automotive world.  In 1996 the Cobra got 300 hp, huge for the time.  A current GT now has 300 hp.  In 2001 the Corvette Z06 was in all of the magazines, by 2005 every stock C6 was just as fast.  You get my point.

Even if you do decide to buy one, now is not the time.  Prices will be coming down.  In 2009 the Challenger will be available in quantity, the Camaro will be out, the GT-500 and Mustang get a refresh, and gas will probably be $5 per gallon.

Brenspeed the SH#T out of it.  I am also from Indiana (about 15 min from Brenspeed) but stationed on the USS Bataan out of Norfolk and I just use all the extra cash to buy parts from brenspeed.

I was thinking of doing mine through Brenspeed but I didn't want to have to drive from Oklahoma to Indiana. I am stationed in Afghanistan and with the extra money I bought the Whipple HO for my car. So when I get home on R&R I plan on installing mine. But I was going to go with the Stage 3 kit. Either way you go its going to be fun to drive.
