Default 6 SPEED

is it possible to put the 6 speed transmission from the GT500 on an 07 GT? Will it fit?

should be able to sheetmetal is identical in the way of the floor pans and such as far as i know the bellhousing bolt pattern is the same. talk to your dealer or a good speed shop that has worked on a lot of gts and 500s and just ask them that would probably be your best be i think

I'm curious as to how well it would help gas mileage in town and on the highway.

I personally love the 6spd. You will hear a lot of people say it's not worth it for several reasons, money and weight.

Screw the weight, it's 20 friggin pounds more than the stock 5spd.

The ratios all around are higher (which means numerically lower) so gas mileage will only slightly increase. 4th gear is still 1.00 because it's 4th gear but 1st is like 2.95 on the GT500 so you'll lose acceleration also.

With 300hp it's small but for hardcore stangbangers, every .1s counts. But with a .5xo/d you can just add 3.73s or 3.90s and still get fine mileage at like 2000RPM at like 80mph,lol.

+1 on some of the things mentioned above.

Additionally the 6th gear on the GT500 transmission is 0.62 versus the 0.68 in the 5 speed off the GT. That will only save you a little bit on gas.

i also figured i would lose some acceleration so i'd probably have to get a set of 4.10's
my car came with the 3.55's so i think it would be kind of pointless to go to 3.73's because its such a small jump
3.90's sound nice but alot of guys seem to stay away from them because ford racing doesn't make them and the motive gears have a reputation for being whiney

steeda sells it for $3k. You need a custom driveshaft and a new trans crossmember. You aren't going to save much gas, if any. Only reason I'd buy it is because it can handle a lot more torque than the 3650.

Here is another reason I like the idea of the six speed.

I absolutely HATE dropping all the way from a 1:1 ratio in 4th gearto a 0.68:1 ratio in 5th. That is a helluva drop. I like the idea of that 0.83:1 ratio in between.

Actually the T3650 5th is a .62 just like the shelby spec 6060. I hope they make a viper spec 6060 conversion kit for the S197s. A.50 6th gear and all the refinements of the 6060.
