Not only arr convertibles heavier, but in order to compete in serious racing, they have to have rollover bars installed. More weight, more expense.
Of course, you could put the top up on your convertible, when it rains or gets cold. Not that I'd let that influence me too much. Try putting the top of your coupe down on a sunny day. Heh.
I've owned a bunch of convertibles and a bunch of coupes, a couple of trucks, a couple of SUVs,and a couple of vans. Last time I wanted a car, I picked another convertible. I just seem to feel more "in the world" in a convertible. I went faster on race tracks in a coupe, but the convertibles were more fun.

From most angles, the convertible S197 looks better with the top up, in my view. The top kind of balances ordisguises the hip-heavy look of the basic Mustang design, seems to me.
