"Best" is a broad and subjective term. "Most desirable" or "rarest"are less subjective.
Among my personal favorites are the 65 GT350R cars, 68-1/2 CJ's (actually saw one at the M+ car show a couple weeks ago), 69 Boss 429's, and the 67 Super Snake.

Starfury is right. "Best" is in the eye of the beholder. "Best" as far as most representative might be a plain 65 coupe. It started a revolution and was wildly popular. Best for muscle, well certainly the 429s as mentioned above could qualify. Best styling...I choose 65/66 or 69/70. Others will choose their favorites. If I could pick one Mustang for my personal "best" car it would be the 1969 Mach I.

oh cool u went to the show at m+? ive been there a few times but never to a show. its only like an hour and a half away from my house. i always read about the shows in the catalog
Wellto methere are 3 different types of classic Mustangs, the 'secretary car' 64.5-66 style, the more European style 67-68 (especially the GT 350/500) and the muscle car 69-70 style. Personally I would say the 'best' would be either the '67 GT500 or the '69 Boss 302. The Boss 302 was often named ‘the best handling Ford ever’ and it was basically a Trans-Am race car slightly toned down for street use.
