so with a lot of thought, i've decided that im gonna do the auto to manual swap for my v6 before i do any other major mods to it... I'm hoping to complete all of this by august. I'm aware that this is gonna be an expensive project, and since I'm so motivated to do it I'm gonna be taking up 2 jobs instead of just one... hopefully with these 2 jobs I'll be able to set aside $1100 for this major project. I really want to do it. Now the thing is I've researched over n over and i always come across these articles from online mustang magazines like "mustang monthly" or "ford muscle" that only lets me read half of the article and leaves me hanging and asks me to sign up... I reaaaaaaalllly wanna get started on this project as soon as i can so can all of you whoever is not busy please contribute w/e knowledge you have on the swap, what materials i need, what parts do i need, where can i get them, etc... what to do, what to look out for, what not to do... ANYTHING! im gonna gather all this info and get started maybe buying the smaller things... whoever can contribute shoot... i appreciate this... dont kill my motivation!! edit: in case anyone wants to know, i drive an 04 v6

ok, if you are gonna do the swap, go ahead and do it right...save up some extra cash, and while the tranny is out, go ahead and do all the tranny mods you wanna do. gears, lsd, hi-po clutch, aluminum flywheel, etc. itll cut down on future install/labors fees, and you will feel a HUGE diff. when you change over. good luck

Go to www.3.8mustang.com/forum and do a search on "How To: 5 speed swap". They have a writeup with all of the needed parts and tips on doing the install.

honestly man, I would just get a shift kit. but i know where you are comeing from, and a 5 spd is a hellava lot funner. shift kits are the way to go with auto's . on subject: i wanted to do this a few years back with my older mustang, and from what i hear the biggest pita is puting the clutch pedal in. i hear its a the hardest part but very do able. other than that it was a straight drop and put in, you probally from what i remember need a new electical harness ( not the whole thing but a section ) the tranny, pedals, some other wires here and there and some other little stuff. good luck

I'll be swapping in a new flywheel in a few weeks, so I can take pictures of my trans tunnel that I had to cut for the shifter to fit through. I can get pictures of anything else you need, too.

You need: 1.) ECU REFLASH - resets your ecu to that of a manual, or option B.) A Manual ECU 2.) T-5 V6 Belhousing 3.) Steeda Tri-Axe Short Shifter - most trannys will not come with a shifter, and the Steeda is the better way to go anyways. 4.) T-5 Transmission 5.) Spec Stage 1 Clutch - most trannys will not come with a clutch, so you'll need this as well and is much better than stock 6.) Spec Aluminum (or billit steel) Flywheel - Same as clutch 7.) T-5 28 Spline Yoke (if your stock driveshaft yoke isn't a 28) or option B is an aluminum driveshaft, might as well while you're there 8.) Clutch Pedal Assembly - don't forget the pedal 9.) Steeda Adjustable Clutch Pedal Cable - it's hard to find clutch pedal cables for a decent price, and for a swap, this will be the best way All in all, you're looking at a lot of money. The install will be around $400 FYI.

Will you be upgrading to aftermarket upgrades as jthorn suggested or just buy stock parts?
