I would like to make the scratches and pucks in the black paint of my Subaru look less noticable, and make the overall paint look less dull. I took these pictures tonight after I washed and wiped down the car. The car was clayed and cleaner-waxed two weeks ago. (This is as good as it gets.) What you are seeing in the close-ups is not dirt.

Meguiars Scratch-X did wonders on my Black mustang. Give that a try?

I'm under the impression Scratch-x is very mild and is loaded with fillers?
You would *really* benefit from a PC. While some of those scratches look really bad, the PC will atleast round off the edges and certainly shrink the width of them and if you use certain glazes with fillers, you can hide them almost completely and then seal it.
I've read that glazes with oils & fillers need 24 hours to cure before you can seal them, but who knows how true or false that is.

A friend is letting me borrow his PC 7424. I will need to purchase a polishing pad. I see the yellow is for a deeper cut and the white is for light polish? I have Step 1 and Obsessive Light Polish in my stash. I have already tried ScratchX.

You should atleast get Optimum Compound for those scratches. The light polish will help, but it'll probably take twice as long or even longer than a compound to get those scary scratches ya got.

Compound is a scary word and this is my first time.
Optimum Compound then Light Polish? What if I only used the Compound on the really bad spots? Will the orange pad be ok to use for both products? I also have Klasse All-In-One synthetic and Klasse Glaze.
Did it! All the products worked great. I used Optimum Compund on the bottom of the door, the large scratch and the front bumper, using the orange pad. Went back and polished the whole car with Obsessive Polish and white pad. Final step was a coat of carnauba by hand.
The door scratch is so much less noticable! I used speed 5 on the PC becuase speed 6 vibrated so much it hurt my hand. I found the Obsessive Polish to spit lots of dust. Now that I am confident, going to go back and use the compound/polish process on the hood to remove some oxidation spots.
Unfortunately, no pictures. My Canon pocket digital camera is being used by my younger sister who is in Denmark and my older sister has my digital zoom for her trip to see the Red Sox at Balitmore.
