i bought my 68' coupe with a 302, that ran great, had very decent interior, extremely minnimal rust ( only a little bit of cancer in the passenger floor pan ) for $2125 at a auction in a tow yard.

it was impounded for street racing.
but that was a steal
but they are deffinitaly out there.
BTW i live in So Cal

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but you will have a very hard time finding a '67 or '68 fastback that has the floors, interior, engine, etc... for $5000; although it is possible if you find the right seller. Try looking at coupes, they're way cheaper and way easier to find, good luck and have fun!

+1

even fastback shells are bringing quite a bit these days. I would suggest posting a want ad on craigslist. Dont just jump on the first one you get. make sure it is the right one for you. Most of us waited months before buying our stangs.

also, you could look in to getting a coupe. you could get one in much better shape for the price and they still look dang sexy (better than FB's in my opinion, although most would disagree).

good luck! if you find one and want an opinion if its a good deal, just post a thread with some pics and details and we would be glad to help you out.

No, I totally agree :) We are the 20-25 year old new classic Mustang appreciation society

Go for a coupe, you'll save money (that you will of course put in something else ... for the car)

Fastback shells are worth 5,000. Just go with a coupe. I bought my coupe for 5500 and the only problem was it had been hit in the passenger door.

They are going for about as much as a coupe would sell for. I know this guy who sold a fastback shell that was rusted out for 4500 i think it was.

This car looks nice But needs floors & frame repair. Frame is pretty rusty but for what this car is & having a numbers matching 289 & Complete from the Paint right down to the original hubcaps. It's an A/C car & thats all there. The car is super straight & Never been hit.The Interior is all there & is in Very good condition other than the carpet. The Car runs & the guy I bought it from says it was rebuilt & has about 500 miles on motor & about 5000 miles on Rebuilt Trans & new clutch, But it was rebuilt over 25 years ago. Just ran the numbers on this & found out its NOT a real Stick car. But was converted over, Before last owner bought it.When he had motor rebuilt he pulled the 2 barrel intake off & put on a 4 barrel carb & intake. Original 2 barrel carb & intake in Trunk. I put a new Battery in it & poured gas in carb & it fired right up.Car Runs good. Drove it up & down my street.Car comes with many receipts & if I get what I want I'll throw in an NOS Rear Bumper in Original Ford paper with Ford Part # on Bumper.Im asking $8000 or best offer. I saw 2 end on ebay in worst condition for over $10,000 Tired of all the tire kickers So I listed it on ebay If interested Check out all pictures on there. Ebay # 270227085034 Please call me at 313-410-8976

that doesnt really make sense.... parts will be the same price for coupes and fb's...

i guess its up to you, but if you are gonna hold out for a fastback you will need to save up quite a bit more money to get one in the shape you are looking for.

I was trying to say that the price for mustang fastbacks will go up and I will own one someday and it would be better to just buy one now. Sorry if I wasnt clear.
