Default Wheel Spacer Questions

OK, this might sound kinda dumb, but I want a little wider stance. I want to keep my OEM rims as I've already sunk an additional $400.00 in to powder coating them.

#1.AmI a retard for wanting touse spacers to adjust the off-set just for looks?

#2.Could I JUSTthrow a spacer in there withoutgetting longerbolts?

#3. If I needed to uselongerbolts, how much work is it to switch out the factory bolts?

#4. Ifthis isn't a bad idea, what size spacer should I use to get a nice look (without being too rediculous)?

Wheel spacers = $400 if you do them right, you need longer bolts unless you go 5mm or less which you could create the same effect with wider tires either that or you wouldn't notice it really.

Get big wheel spacers and it will look good.

Not totally retarded...check out this high quality spacing kit that comes with everything to swap the bolts (this is the only way to do this right). www.mustangwheelspacers.com5/8 inch is the best on most S197s.

not to disagree with the previous poster, but it depends on what you're trying to accomplish. you can purchase hubcentric spacers that do not require longer studs, in fact they would require trimming of the existing studs. if you have a reciprocating saw, they're easy to trim. if you decide to use 1/2 hubcentric spacers, you'll have to install longer studs. there's a website mustangspacers.com....or something like that, where you can buy the whole kit with longer studs and all for about $119. if you've ever done a brake job, or had your calipers off for any reason, the studs are actually quite easy to replace. i've done it a couple of times on my 07gt....without pulling the axles.

i installed 1" hubcentric spacers on my 07 after trimming the studs, didn't like the look, and took the spacers right back off again. i then proceeded to replace the wheel studs with stock lenght studs since i had trimmed mine....takes about and hour and a half if you have jack stands, floor jack, an impact and perhaps a large ball peen or similar hammer.

i know the purists will tell you the studs have to be pressed in and out, but i'm here to tell you, if you take your time and be careful, you can do it in your driveway.

i paid like $75 for the 1" hubcentric spacers that required trimming the stock studs. there are even some suppliers that supply spacers with shorter studs so you don't have to cut your originals.

whew......

again, not to flame anyone, but $400 bucks is way out of line imo for spacers. probably more like $200 if you do all four, and much less if you're doing the rears only like i did.

I dont know about being a purist, but doing things right and understanding
why they are being done that way sure makes a difference between a good
day enjoying the drive and a bad day chasing wheels down the road.

The safe and proper way to change wheel studs:

You should have gotten the correct offset for the look you desired.
Sell your rims and get the correct rims with the offset you desire.
p.s. spacers are no good with high horsepower vehicles

They are factory rims that I had powder-coated. I actually did buy a set of aftermarkets. They were black Saleen replicas (the older style 5 spokes). I loved the look and the off-set was perfect. However, the rimsended up beingsh!tty. They wobbled like a mother-f#cker. Had them re-balanced, switched thearound the car, nothing worked. So, sadly they're off the car. Hence, the OEM's being powder-coated.

I would love to buy another set of the Saleens. Don't want to end up getting f#cked again in the quality department. Is American Musclea good place to buy from?
