I am having a "debate" with a guy on another forum.  Is it safe to say that if a specific car cuts a better 60', the ET will improve (assuming no missed shifts, poor shifts, etc.) and the trap will be *slightly* lower?  I could have sworn I have seen that here again and again.

This dude called the stock STI dogishly slow.  He drives an E36 M3.  How can you call an STI dog slow when an E36 M3 is slower?  To him, it's all about trap speed.  I've couldn't find a stock E36 M3 that trapped higher than 99 mph (I am sure they have hit 100-101) and I found a bunch of stock STI's that have trapped 102+.  In any event, here is his comment:

quote:

There's several people around here (mainly with 95's with 3.15 rear that have trapped 100-101. I am one of them. Also..again just because it can get a faster 60ft dosn't make it any faster from a roll. Of course an M3 would trap 102-104 with a 1.7 60ft. Go get a 2.1-2.2 60ft in your Sti and see what you run/trap.

My argument is that if you *could* cut a 1.7 60' with a stock E36 M3, if anything, you would see a lower trap.  Make sense or am I talking out my ass?

I dont have enough Tracktime to  know this.  But I ALWAYS see it stated in this Section that the Lower the ET the Lower the Trap.

Do a Burnout. see how fast you hit a certian speed and not move but 10 feet?(as in if your spinning  YOU NOT going anywhere..)

I guess thats what it means. but what do i know, im a non track going 22 year old   G/l With ur debate.

at roll races it matters the traps speed but from a dig cutting a good 60 can almost net a better E/T

No I think you guys are missing the point. Yes if you 60' the **** out of your car your traps should drop. You spend less time on the track and in turn have less opportunity to build up speed. Another thing you can do to test this theory is deep stage next time at the track.

For your first run stage normally with both staging lights lit up. Next time though do a deep stage with only the bottom light lit. If both runs are identical you should experience a 1-1.5 mph drop in trap speed.

I would say its pretty typical for your trap speed to drop slightly with a better 60' time.

Thanks guys.  This guy thinks he is Ron Fellows and John Force rolled into one.  He offered to run my "big bad 427" on any road course for money.  Just a real obnoxious little prick.  He's big into the Atlanta street racing scene, which apparantley is all roll racing.

Your spot on Ed. The better the sixty. the faster you'll get down the track and the lower your trap speed will be. My buddy is a rabid BMW guy. His kid has an 1 gen M3 which is supposed to be the best track car of the M3s when build properly and he own an 03 M3.  The e36 is the dog of the group. He'll have a very hard time keeping up with your Z on anything but a super tight go kart track and even then I think he's f*cked.

Can we set up a SS fund and up the ante for that road course run?

I'd hope he has every power & suspension mod made to make claims like that.

He's been racing since he was 14, has 20,000 track miles, instructs, blah, blah, blah.  Typical blowhard.  Go to the Kill section of bimmerforums to see his rant.  I was nice and even offered an olive branch.  I am a kinder and gentler Bickety.

x2 but certainly not set in stone... it can be the complete opposite sometimes too.

That answers my question.  I was curious why when my 60' improved, my 1/8 mile time improved, but the trap speed was lower.

So that would explain why even though I can run a low 12 in the 1/4 mile, my trap speed is still under 110. Thanx for explaining it guys!
