anybody got some pointers on tinting your own windows?

Have you ever done it before? If not buy enough tint to do it twice, maybe three times. Cut the film on the outside window, heat it up, than apply it to the inside, make your trims and squeegee the water out.

Tinting is pretty hard ... I'm not going to lie.

i recommend not using a credit card to get the water out, it will probably scratch the tint.

Actually a credit card works good, but you need to use Scotch tape to cover the edges.;)

hahahaah :D Eh I say give it a shot, if it doesn't work out, you're down what like $20 for a roll of tint?

well i must say it didn't turn out THAT bad... it's definitely an amatuer job but when you're standing 5 feet away from the car you can't tell the difference... i did the drivers' side first so it obviously didn't come out too well... when i seperated the liner from the film it clung together and madea few creases... they didn't show up at all (except for 2) when it was over though... the hardest part on both sides was getting the bottom corner closest to the door jamb... getting the film to tuck underneath the gasket was a pain in the ass... the film ripped on the passenger side and creased badly on the driver's side.. it sounds bad but like i said whenever you stand away it looks wonderful, especially the passenger side window- it is immaculate except for that one rip...

overall, i would say it was a success for $50 (film, tools, and shipping) and a first-time job... i would recommend doing it... once you get the hang of it i'd say it could be pretty easy

yeah i'm gonna re-do it now that i know what im doing... assuming the next time around goes okay i'll spend about half of what i would've spent on a pro... plus i get the satisfaction of knowing that i did it myself

That question just gave me one of those eerie feelings like I just woke up from a nightmare! When I first got my GT (do not ask me how, still a mystery)the previous ownerhad put two layers of tint on the rear window. Amazingly enough it did not look too terrible, of course I did not immediately know that it was piggy backed like that either.

Anyway, the first layer was fairly easy to peel away, but then there was this layer of discoloredbright purple tint. I swear someone must have applied that crap with super glue and a mop! I seriously considered just replacing the rear glass.......

jesus that's scary haha... LUCKILY, i didn't do the rear window... it was already tinted when i bought it

No doubt! The more I think about it, the guy probably re-tinted the car just before showing it to me. And when he got to the rear window, he could not get the purple stuff off either, so he went over it.

The strange thing is that after that whole fiasco, I experimented with some tint "scraps" I had, and I could never getone layer of tint to stick over another layer tint.

what year is the car??? the old tint was probably there for 10 years or more!! ha
