What is everyone's opinion on polarized sunglasses. I recently picked up a pair of Oakley Whiskers, non polarized, but I found them too weak so I traded them in for a polarized set. I find them slightly irritating. Everything has a purple and green hue, and I cant see the nav screen in my car. I dont notice any benefits whatsoever. Opinions?

supposed to reduce glare. i like oakleys polarized lens, you can see through glass a lot easier, even though you do get some funny colors.  they really help on the slopes if you get polarized goggles. the glasses are nice when fishing or driving in bright conditions.

It filters out the out the "flat" light rays (i.e. - rays bouncing off of a shiny surface be a lake or a road) and because you can only see the "vertical" rays it reduces ALOT of glare. I use a pair to drive home in the afternoon when I have to head west and in the morning when I head east.

I have brown polarized lenses in a set of Ray Ban shooting glasses. Brown makes a lot of contrast and makes greens really pop. Great for skiing, fishing, hunting, driving.

Wow......you don't snow ski in sun glasses?  Are you one of those wussies who wears goggles when it's sunny outside??

The only time I water ski in my sunglasses is if I have done too many 12oz curls......luckily they are wrap arounds.

They do take away a lot of glare. Especiall on water. I was at the beach and you can see though the water a lot easier than with regular glasses. Its weird. But looking through tinted windows and stuff is annoying and sometimes imo it cause a little glare. I was wearing my dads face shield helmet on his motorcycle with my sunglasses on and it was kind of annoying.

obviously you have never heard of powder or getting air, because this stuff called snow gets in your face. by the way okbfd - your car is hot.

i love polarized glasses. once i tryed them i never went back. +1 for fishing, u can cut the glare out and see thru the water much easier, its amazing watching a fish fight close to the boat and seeing it crystal clear.

Try a different set. I won't wear anything but polarized. regular sunglasses just dim things down, they don't do anything to actually help IMO. They do take a couple of days/weeks to get used to though since you will see DOT coatings in car windows (look like a checkerboard pattern or lines in the glass) and LCD panels at the wrong angle can't be read. Glass taht looks all purple and stuff is either really old or has all sorts of UV coatings in the glass.

some things are funky colors, but you get used to it pretty fast. i bought a .75mm set a long time ago and it was pretty bad, after i broke those i purchased a 1.1mm set and i don't even notice the discoloration anymore.

i originally bought them for fishing, but use them every day for driving

I have the oakley Flak Jackets and the non polarized didnt seem as effective, but polarized glasses are real good for fishing...
And i think it helps block the sun a little better, but yeah you do get the discoloration in some stuff. Like tinted windows will be purpleish...

I've got a set of Oakley Minuteman glasses, the polarizing works wonders while driving and playing some sports.  Don't wear them much when I'm playing 1B in baseball, but that's mainly b/c of the shadows on the field.

once you have polarized you can't go back to the cheap crap. They reduce crazy amounts of glare, make everything easier to see, and I don't get any weird colors with mine

it does interfere with some screens though as well as make tint on cars look bubbly and stuff. but the benefits out way that by far

also considering the sun makes me sneeze constantly they come in handy for me lol

Bought a set of Maui Jim (Mauna Loa) about the same time I bought my car and without a doubt the BEST pair of shades I've ever owned.

The Flexon fit feels like you don't even have shades on, and they are PERFECT for driving into this West Texas sun.

I recommend them to everyone looking for a quality pair of Polarized shades.

i used to use sunglasses when i would snowboard.  there was a lip between the groomed area and non groomed...i was planning to use it to catch some air but instead of it launching me i sunk in and ate it big time.  sunglasses lost on the first day .
