I am replacing my carpet and am wondering what that silver stuff you guys are putting down is. I went to Oreilly and got some silver stuff for under the carpet, but it has insulation on one side. The stuff you guys have looks as though it forms or is sticky. Also, where do I get it? Thanks.

Theres the factory stuff which is ok then theres dynamat hushmat and many other brands and yes any sound deading will kill noise in the car. Many of my friends do car audio and swear the stick down like dynamat lined the whole trunk the car don't buzz and rattle like most you hear going by blasting music.

I don"t know what it is called, but the from what I know both in car audio and general car knowledge I have, It is well worth the time and effort. Even the insulation that used to hang from your hood helps reduce heat and noise.you may want to make sure it does not retain moisture. Just be careful not to put stuff in that is too thick it may be hard to re-install the seats and shifter plate etc... A good example would be to take a ride in a 1969 dodge power wagon (no insulation) if you can still hear, then take a ride in a 2008 cadillac (insulation)

I just installed Rattle Trap in my car... it was about $200 for 150sqft of 80mil stuff... it took one of two roll to do the entire trunk and behind the rear quarter panels doubling up on the wheel wells. It will be a long time though before i get to try it out. but i still have 1 roll for the front of the vehicle, doors, and roof. i can post some pics but i cant tell you about the effectiveness of the product

The stuff I found I'll be using does more than cut out sound it also reduces the heat in the car. www.quietride.com Very similar to dynamat and this comes pre-cut for year specific models.

I used a product called FatMat. I purchased 100 square feet and split it with my cousin. We did both our Mustangs. I would have liked to have a bit more to line my doors. I think it was around $120 shipped. It is very similiar to Dynamat and goes on very easy. It did quiet down the interior. Here is a picture of it installed. I used some heat insulation from Dixiline lumber this past weekend.. I dont think its going to last very long though.. It was a sandwich of aluminum, bubble wrap, and more aluminum,, it really cut down the heat and with the extra carpet on top the noise came down too.. But I only did the cabin floor, Its a hell of a lot better than the bare floor that I had before..

Thanks true66gt. I tried to figure out what the problem was, couldn't, and just gave up and left it the way it was. I don't do a great deal of posting. sorry

Well... I could be wrong but... I look at sound and heat deadening products differently from carpet underlayment. Yes I know the underlay helps in this area but I look at it as more of a cushion floor to make the carpets softer Our car is getting something like the following... POR-15ed - top of firewall right back into the trunk. 3M Seam Sealer - brushed on over all the joints and seams. Dupli-Color Bedliner - 2 coats over POR-15. Damplifier Pro - firewall, floors, roof, trunk, trunk divider, rear wheelwells, quarter & fender panels. Spectrum - Over all the Damplifier Pro and possibly on the undercarriage. Dupli-Color Bedliner - 2 coats over Spectrum. Original style Jute Underlayment - front & rear floors, tunnel and firewall Toped off with new Carpet. Overkill? ehh who knows! Should be quiet though and thats what she wants. As all you married guys know.. she typically gets what she wants!
