Default Carpet underlayment? What is this stuff?

I am replacing my carpet and am wondering what that silver stuff you guys are putting down is. I went to Oreilly and got some silver stuff for under the carpet, but it has insulation on one side. The stuff you guys have looks as though it forms or is sticky. Also, where do I get it? Thanks.

im going to piggy back off this and ask anyones opinion on whether or not the insulation is worth it.

do you see a large reduction in noise?

I don't know the answer but will be watching the answers closely.

Thinking of replacing my carpet soon.

Theres the factory stuff which is ok then theres dynamat hushmat and many other brands and yes any sound deading will kill noise in the car. Many of my friends do car audio and swear the stick down like dynamat lined the whole trunk the car don't buzz and rattle like most you hear going by blasting music.

I don"t know what it is called, but the from what I know both in car audio and general car knowledge I have, It is well worth the time and effort. Even the insulation thatused tohang from your hood helps reduce heat and noise.you may want to make sure it does not retain moisture.
Just be careful not to put stuff in that is too thick it may be hard to re-install the seats and shifter plate etc...

A good example would be to take a ride in a 1969 dodge power wagon (no insulation) if you can still hear, then take a ride in a 2008 cadillac (insulation)

I just installed Rattle Trap in my car... it was about $200 for 150sqft of 80mil stuff... it took one of tworoll to do the entire trunk and behind the rear quarter panels doubling up on the wheel wells. It will be a long time though before i get to try it out. but i still have 1 roll for the front of the vehicle, doors, and roof. i can post some pics but i cant tell you about the effectiveness of the product

The stuff I found I'll be using does more than cut out sound it also reduces the heat in the car.

www.quietride.com

Very similar to dynamat and this comes pre-cut for year specific models.

I used a product called FatMat. I purchased 100 square feet and split it with my cousin. We did both our Mustangs. I would have liked to have a bit more to line my doors. I think it was around $120 shipped. It is very similiar to Dynamat and goes on very easy. It did quiet down the interior. Here is a picture of it installed.
