I have been restoring and modifying Mustangs and many other cars for a long time. My customer wants me to do the Shelby Mod on his 66 control arms. I have not done this. Is it just as simple as redrilling the mounting holes one inch lower or is there more to this? Thanks in advance. Hutch

depnds on the year.

65/6 1 inch down and 1/8 to the rear.
67/8 iirc it is simply straight down 1 inch.

Then align to the shelby specs...not the stock specs.

One of the members here, Daze, sells the proper template and drill bit off of his website (http://www.dazecars.com).

Daze has been around lately, so he'll probably chime in real soon with the proper alignment specs:)

Not to steal anyones business, but mustangdepot has it for free.  It is just a paper template.

You can make your own paper template with a triangle and a ruler.  I'm getting the steel template because a) it's cheap and it'll make my life easier, and b) I can't really make one of those myself very easily, heh.

Thanks again, you all have been very helpful. Will do this next week. Just got his car running. I built a 95 Cobra engine with JE pistons, Ported GT40's. Roller rockers, E-303 cam. 10.1 comp, AOD, SS disc brake kit, front and rear sway bars. Custom built shock tower brace. Should be a strong runner and fuel eff.

Be careful using that template it is the one out of the tony branda catalog if you have a 67-70 car the drawing is off just a hare if you measure it. If you want to draw one up the distance needs to be 3.75" center to center 1" down and 1/8" back for a 60-66 Mustang or Falcon and 4.75" center to center 1" down for 67-70 Mustang and cougar.

There is nothing wrong with using a paper template however I would strongly recommend transferring it to a piece of scrap steel first so you know it is correct before you drill the holes in the car. I have seen a couple of posts on the forums over the years where a person used the paper template, and punched the holes in the right spot but the drill bit moved well drilling and didn't get the holes perfectly located and then had issues getting the UCA in. Its easy to bolt a steel template to the shock tower to guide the bit its not as easy to bolt a piece of paper to the shock tower and then there is no guide.

as far as "taking" my business, it matters not to me. Unlike my other products I don't sell them to make money, I sell the template and bit at just a few bucks over cost, and what I make does not adiquitelly cover my time, I do this because I think every one should do this mod and I provide the part to do it easily and correctly. If you want to use the free paper template and a 1/2" bit and then use a file to slightly enlarge the holes than go for it, there is nothing wrong with a free handling upgrade.

I have a full web page with all the details about the drop go to: http://home.bresnan.net/%7Edazed/drop

If you have any further questions on the drop don't hesitate to ask

How much will this lower the car? I have the 620 rate 1" drop springs and i am concerned that it might lower the car to much since it already sits pretty low. Thanks
