I have an 07 with the aux input feature in the center console. I want to downgrade from my AVIC-D3 back to the stock stereo. If I buy an 05 Mustang stock stereo head unit, will the aux input feature still work? Because I know they didnt have the aux input feature till 07, so I'm wondering if an 05 or 06 head unit will work.
No, you wont. It needs to be an 07 model shaker with a similar as built data as the OEM one you removed. Otherwise, no AUX and it might not work right in your stang. The speed sensitive volume will return with the installation of an OEM shaker stereo. I think the 05 and 06s had speed sensitive volume?
/\ +1 My 06 had the speed sensitive volume as well, along with an Aux output (I think) Its just laying around now since I had my Sony installed last year

thanks for the info. So I should definitely look for an 07 head unit? Also I dont have the shaker system, just the standard 4 speaker system. I think it will be impossible for me to find an 07 stock unit but there are plenty of 05s and 06s. I just really want the speed sensitive volume and aux to work. Does anyone know for sure what year unit I should get?

get an 07 unit and save a headache. the 06, like mine, has the aux button but no plug. its basically a worthless button unless you purchase an aftermarket adapter which will require you to rig up your own plug location. i went this route a while back. it worked perfect up until it screwed with my computer and made my instrument cluster go haywire. now i just use an FM modulator from Audiovox and it works great. static is non-existent.

edit: sounds like a good idea, I'll definitely look for 07's only now. Thanks for the info!
If anyone knows where they have 07 oem stock stereos, please let me know! I have a feeling I'm gonna be searching for at least a few weeks :(

Does anyone know if I have to get the stereo reprogrammed? I am probably getting an 07 unit out of a F350. Will the Ford dealer be willing to reprogram my stereo? How much does it cost?

Yes, the dealer will have to go online and download the 'as built data' for your VIN# and load it into the OEM stereo so your 'can buss' will recognize it properly. I am not 100% sure but the Workshop manual has the needed info you are looking for. http://iihs.net/fsm/?dir=1 http://iihs.net/fsm/?dir=377&viewfile=Audio%20Unit.pdf Its called "module configuration". Since you dont have the original radio for your VIN#, the 'as built data' will have to be found by the dealer online. Not sure of the going rate for stereo 'module configuration' but at least you know what to ask for by name. Module Configuration costs, please.

I just don't really like the D3 at all. It doesn't fit the interior, its pretty ugly, and I've had countless problems with the navigation. I just want to return to a simple, clean, stock look.
Can you go into depth about your problems with navigation? Was it just having to change out the disk or what?

HELP: Does anyone know if all 2007 Ford models came standard with aux input capability? I am about to purchase a 2007 F350 Take-out Stereo and I need to know if the aux will work. Thanks for your help if anyone knows.
Just be aware that it's the part number you should be looking at. That number you quoted is not the part number. The long number on the sticker is. I just got a take out factory nav unit. It was made for another vehicle. It did not readily fit. They are the same dimensionally, but the face plates are slightly different from model to model. The nav unit's face plate is made to stick out more than the stock one, when I tried to put the surround plate that has the switches and stuff on it, the new unit made it bow outward, like the unit was going to explode through that cover plate. I had to do some work to make it fit. Other than that, it came programmed for my car and it was a plug and play install.
As you can see, the backs are nearly identical. The stereo on e-bay is from an '08 F250, which I know for sure has a standard aux input. I am guessing this stereo will work, even if it needs to be reprogrammed. Do you think it will work?
I don't know....$110.00 + shipping seems high to me for a basic stock radio. If I were you, I would invest $50 on the Shaker 500 that 157db showed you. I have that system and am very satisfies.
